why not just put him on a transfer list and get something back for it? Win win for everyone. Other than McCain, have we ever received a fee for any player?
Ryan, which is?
Personal reasons, or in other words none of our business. The club have clearly stated that it's not football related.
"Personal reasons" ?? "reasons not pertaining to football". Fudge, that's like putting players/coaches on "Gardening Leave" whilst they are being sacked. Pathetic excuse to give. If it was a domestic issue, just be honest, Kosta had some domestic issue to resolve so we have released him/ Sometimes the truth is the easiest and quickest solution and stops speculation and bull shark. I only used the example of domestic issues to make a point, I do not know the true reasons for him getting a release.
Reckon it's more a Smeltz situation.
Which is?
I would have hated my two devorces debated by motorcyclists in a motorcycle forum Related to my job
People moaned about Kosta's efforts all season and now he has gone, we are moaning about not keeping him?
We probably over paid to bring him home & it hasn't worked out for whatever reasons, at least it frees up a lot of cash for the new gaffer to spend & we don't have an unhappy player on the books.
That's what I noticed, but people here keep explaining to me that Wellington has the best quality of life between Singapore and Tahiti, also that the climate is top-notch, so that can't be it.
You really have some sort of complex about this.

Auckland jealousy, don't worry about it........actually, we are looking for a Keeper and Doloras is one, perhaps she should approach the club.....
Kosta could have been great, but he wasn't.
Lacked a soft touch and was too similar to Krishna - this will free up a good amount of cash and give us more flexibility in the type of player that we chase.

This is appalling for the club. Devestating news. When we cant hold on to Kosta, who can we hold on to (with pedigree).
This is so much more than just a player being released from the club. It shows the culture our club is in at the moment.
Though Kosta is a good player I don't think we lose out on much with talented young players such as Rogerson, Singh and McGarry who need to be given a chance to step up and I am sure they can make the step up going by how Kosta and Rojas did in the past when they were young. Atleast now there's left over money for the coach to sort out the Midfield and the troublesome Right back position
Kosta was very disappointing. He had the ability but failed to show it last season.

Which word? "Personal" David Dome mentioned that it was Personal Issues on the radio.

The world Probably doesn't make it an assumption. It's not an assumption because it's what we've been explicitly told.
he did not use the P word on the radio at all. Have another listen
regardless of what has happened this is can be both good for the Phoenix and NZF in general, this means that A) one less player will be taken from the Nix when the All Whites play and B) one more local talent has a chance to develop at a higher level and C) one more Kiwi taking a Visa spot for an Aus team. Good luck to Kosta I'm sure he can hit top form for another team.

1:15 in he said "That's a personal issue for Kosta and we've agreed to keep that reason private between him and the club."
Wonder if Kosta will be at Victory or Roar next season?.

the word which sums up what you are doing to your club by not questioning the owners
Back under the desk with you
Kosta had a season for us which was almost of the exact same quality as his last three for Melbourne Victory and people say he didn't fire for us. It's a bit like how Paul Pogba never scored more than ten goals in a season for Juve, comes to Man U and some people are shocked he only scored 9.

Maybe but he was crap and so was Pogba

If Kosta was crap last season for the Phoenix then he was crap at Victory.
More likely, Kosta played for a very good Victory team and looked very good because he had good players around him. He came to the Phoenix and looked worse because he had worse players around him.

Crap is crap regardless
Kosta was named player of the year by the club wasn't he? Sad that he's heading off, feels like unfinished business here.
His personal issues may have been the cause for his average season performance. So back to Victory or maybe City for him?.
Back to scoring lots of goals, especially against the Nix, if Australia is his next stop.
Why do I keep thinking that in this A League, we (The Nix) fight by Queensbury rules, whilst Australian clubs fight by any means to win?
Kosta is a damn fine player, who didn't start the season as he would have liked, but seemed to finish with some momentum. He scored some classy goals and was appreciated by the Northern Ireland commentator in the last international as having an impact.
Wish he wasn't going. Felt we were gunna be singing for him loudly this season.
Gutted. Miss ya Kosta!

None of those players has ever looked even half as effective as Kosta did as a 16 year old in the (old) ASB Premiership for Team Wellington before he was first signed for the Phoenix. The idea those guys are going to step up to replace him this season is laughable.
I frankly struggle to see what issues could truly mean that he couldn't play 1 more season in Wellington. If it's his missus wanting to go back to Aussie then surely he could do one season of long distance to Melbourne...I really struggle with this from the club frankly.
If he goes overseas then maybe I can understand it, if he ends up back in the A-League playing against us then I will be pretty pissed off. He signed a contract to play in Wellington for 2 years, he is from Wellington so there's no surprises there. I mean he had 1 or maybe 2 seasons literally paying for a team in Siberia! I think it's poor from him and poor from the club. But after releasing Tratt how could they say no?

From the stuff article:
"Kosta Barbarouses' partner struggled to adjust to life in Wellington, a major factor behind his decision to seek a release from the Phoenix in a significant blow for the club.
But it would be a surprise if that was the only reason, with Barbarouses understood to be unhappy with aspects of how the club was run in the city he was born and bred."
So rather than being some big crisis you have a homesick girlfriend and a desire to leave. Which means cut through the spin and the club were happy for him to go.

As a fan group we need to let the the ownership group know that this is not good enough and they should expect players to see out their contract.
One thing about that article, it screams they don't actually know anything either. It was noticed that no writer has put their name to the article and feels like they are just making things up by rumours and hearsay. It could be true but it is just as likely not when it hasn't come from one of the established football writers.
