I disliked Marco, but reflecting back his decision was reasonable in the grand scheme of his career. Kosta on the other hand.... turn up for one season, play like shark and then run back to melborne when your home club needs you the most. Sometimes i wish i were good enough to play for the nix so i could totti the shark outta him when he returns.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Kosta/Nix roll out the "unfinished business" line when he signed for the Nix? Where does that leave him now? How will he feel about his 'unfinished business' in NZ when the ship he jumped off has sunk? Maybe a nice thing to say at the time but in reality he was probably only thinking about th money. He can GGF

What was Totti's beef? (sidetrack, not derail...)
apparently Balotelli had been a little smart arse to Totti the year before, and in the current season (2010) had been disrespecting team mates, couches and his manager. Totti said that if he acted the same way at the same age his team mates would've kicked the shark outta him so decided to teach Mario a lesson. Although the 87th minute of the coppa italia final may not have been the best idea.
Obviously some here are much wiser in the ways of international football than I am, but if Welnix had said "we've got you under contract for another year and you're not going anywhere", surely they couldn't force him to actually play or put any effort into it? At worse they could have forced him not to play for anyone else for a year, but still have to pay his wages, which wouldn't have made anyone happier.
Can someone cite me a situation where a player wanted out of a contract early, club said no, and it turned out better for the club?

That's right. I was peeved when Smeltz and Rojas left, but ultimately it was their choice, their contracts were up and they were free to decide what they wanted to do.
Kosta was under contract, yet managed to engineer a move to a rival.
i'm looking forward to seeing his Yellow Fever Welcome "Home" Cocksta Banner
and singing "whipped by the missus, we know you're whipped by the missus..."
It's got nothing to do with the missus!! He wanted out and has ended up back at Victory with our blessing - it's not complicated so why all the cloak and dagger stuff about off field issues.
its been rumored for more than a month that he was returning to the victory yet he told the nix that no other club was involved. its a dick move.
Come on, you're implying the club took that at face value when releasing that statement? Complete rubbish. Of course they knew exactly where he was going
This article is missing so much of the story. You can't publish articles like this and call yourself 'sports freak' when you are have done so little digging on it. The best case I can guess is you are doing your research from insta-snap-twit-face.
The story is that he wanted out of the Phoenix cause he was unhappy with the way the club was being run and was rumoured to be negotiating with the Victory a good couple of months before he was released, using the poor excuse of 'personal reasons' as the way out to mask his public thoughts. Do some more research before publishing this load of bollocks.
I think it is based on a false premise that he is leaving the Phoenix for "personal reasons" rather than he wanted out of his contract that he signed. I actually doubt he's going to get more money at Victory but that's not the point

Ugh against my better judgement I have also commented. Stupid Sportsfreak.
On a slightly unrelated note, I'm taking suggestions for a new nickname for my car. (red Toyota Vitz) It used to be Kosta, as I bought it the same day Kosta signed for the Phoenix, and also it Kosta'd me a lot of money.

Believe it or not, Balotelli "racially abused" Totti, the City of Rome and its inhabitants. In Italy the place you come from is often more important than the color of your skin, what job you hold or what language you speak. There are strong rivalries between geographical regions and even between rival towns within the same region.
This is also exemplified by the very strong divide between the North and the South of the country. In the North there is widespread belief that Southerners are lazy, dirty and generally speaking inferior to their Northern counterparts.
Balotelli, who grew up in the North and speaks with a Northern accent, disrespected Totti and the City he grew up in and represented for 25 years as a professional - and as far as I'm concerned, he had it coming.

Absuing someone about what city they are from is not racism at all...
Although they made up a fancy name for it - something along the lines of "territorial discrimination" - which may sound ludicrous to the well behaved, fairly PC, average Kiwi football fan I know.
Unfortunately things are a bit different over there - try going to Naples and telling a Neapolitan he has cholera or you wish Mt Vesuvius would erupt - or a Sicilian that he's a mafioso, or a man from Bari that he's a thief, or a man from Bologna that his mother/missus/sister gives great head.....see what happens :))

Honestly, that's far less ludicrous than calling it racism.
Not disputing that it's a thing, it just isn't racism.
even if it don't fit a text book definition of racism- and we call it violent parochialism or territorial machismo- the word racism conveys the effect the abuse had on Totti much better and more simply to us than it would have otherwise...
Let's not argue semantics here - I could've used "territorial discrimination" from the get-go but couldn't be asked explaining the concept in depth...
Suffice it so say, to call someone a Bastard Roman, a Cholera-ridden Neapolitan or a Cat-eating Vicenza-born person is serious enough where I come from.
It is enough to have you ejected and banned from the stadium (as a spectator), be sent off and be given a hefty fine and a long ban (as a player) and to have the shark kicked out of you on the pitch, see Super Mario and Totti.
Anyway, looks like Kosta is doing terribly at MVC already...
Kosta Barbarouses opens up to @MattyHeraldSun about why he left Wellington, why he hasn’t got a false sense of comfort at Melbourne Victory and why he feels he has so much more to give this season. https://t.co/vGFu3p7dZt
