Reports in the Sunday papers have criticised TVNZ's commentary of the All Whites qulifying campaign as "amateur" (see front page).  I haven't watched any games on TVNZ but it is unsurprising to be blunt.

So, are TVNZ going to continue flogging the dead horse that is glen larma and steve sumner and keep these amateurs going to butcher the biggest footballing event in NZ?  Anyone know what the intention is?

Something to keep in mind if you are planning on "enjoying " the game at home!!

Yep, same lineup for Saturday.

To be honest, I found John Matheson's article very harsh.  I watched TVNZ's delayed coverage of the game and I didn't think the commentary was too bad at all.  I thought Sumner in particular was good.

Steve "Get the ball on the deck" Summer.  Must have heard him say that 10+ times.  Commentary wasn't particularly bad. Put your name forward Piney (and don't claim that you face is made for radio)

No the commentary was bad, but who have we got that is better?  Sumner repeates himself too much

Maybe he's just pumping for his mate Malcolmson...

I still think we should have experienced football broadcasters first, experienced broadcasters second, ex footballers third in that order.  This is a big opportunity, it would be a shame to spoil it with poor qality comentary which we all know from watching ESPN can really affect the enjoyment of the match

i was a bit dissapointed with the commentary team, atleast Steve got into it...even though he was a  highly critical, whinging old man.

that article in the SN was a bit harsh, esp the comment:

Hickey was an average All White and adds no depth or real insight while Sumner one of the great All Whites has the charisma of an old boot.

While Noah wasn't exactly dynamic (eg: Miles Davis) he still provided some respectable comments

One of the best sports commentators is here in Wellington - Jason  Pine. His Saturday morning show is by far the best sports show that I have heard in NZ

grr i hate how football (and other sports) always use ex-players as commentators...i mean, come on, in after match interviews, about 1% of players actually say anything interesting
I like tautologies because I like them.
