Now there's a lot of this merch turning up around the place (which is good, raises the profile of the game and all that) but the one thing I noticed today that really annoyed me was the "Champions of the World - Official All Black Store" had both home and away LA Galaxy shirts displayed outside their store.

Now I walk past that store most days and have NEVER EVER seen Phoenix merchandise on display, I always figured that was because they touted themselves as a rugby only store, and I was fine with that... but for them now to go and openly display Galaxy gear out front of their store seems almost an insult to the nix.  Granted I've never been into the store (and since they've never displayed nix gear why would I?) so they may have some nix gear tucked away in the back, but I dunno it just felt like a dagger in the ribs seeing them continue to shun the nix for their front displays, but have galaxy gear there.

A bit of further clarification - I'm not talking about Champs sports or the other Champions store on the Quay (who are very much behind the nix), but the one store that I thought was staunchly rugby only.

Am I right in feeling put out by this or am I making much ado out of nothing?

Noticed the same thing myself today, so I'm hereby declaring Champions the official* home of the LA Galaxy, and RYOS the official home of the Wellington Phoenix. Which means, as a Phoenix supporter, I will spend all my merchandise money at RYOS instead of at Champions

Which actually makes no difference anyway. Champions has never really impressed me, went there once to buy trackpants and they had none in my size, didn't take the chance to offer to order some in for me (I would have accepted and they'd get a sale), never ask if I need help, basically lackluster service. RYOS? Good stock, great dedication to the Phoenix and Yellow Fever, and everyone who works there that I've met are awesome people. So I spend there anyway

*(where official = in my eyes )

You don't want to mix up Champs and Champions of the world HP.

Champs are football only purveyors and huge friends of the Fever.  Champions of the world are most obviously not.

So Champions Of The World is the one accross the road from Starbucks, or is it the small store futher down the road?

I wonder how many suckers will buy Galaxy gear from there. The Galaxy of course will be laughing all the way to the bank. Meanwhile we will continue to shop at Champs (Cuba Mall) & RYOS (Lambton Quay) as  both stores have staff with awesome attitudes and Nix gear cheaper than anyone else.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Cant be, that Ryos store has plenty of Nix stuff and very much pro Phoenix. He is referring to the "Champions" store also on Lambton Quay.

No no no - I tried to go to lengths to say that I didn't mean RYOS (but forgot the name of that place when I wrote the post).  I mean Champions of the World - and yes its the one opposite Starbucks down the Willis St end of Lambton Quay.

Big ups to RYOS and Champs Sports for being behind the nix, I don't mind if they sell Galaxy gear because they're clearly behind our boys first and foremost.

I served some guy in a champs shirt at the deli at the New World I work at, and he seemed nice therefore: I now prefer Champs to these other guys.

Anyone who buys replica kit from Champions of the world is a sucker anyway, most of it was well over a hundred dollars last time I looked.

I'm actually wondering how much support the 'nix will gain through this game if people are just jumping on the "ooooh, Becks" bandwagon.

Could it be that football on this occasion is turning into a circus?

Yes, yes it is. Just like it did in LA for a couple of weeks after Beckham signed.
Terry, yes this game will bring the club money but surely you could have got a good team, not an over-hyped player and his mates to come down here.

Perhaps it's due to Champions of the World being an All Blacks (aka Adidas) store, and the Galaxy/Beckham being sponsored by Adidas?

I hear that comment quite a lot. I guess you mean a top quality european club? Anyone know how much that would cost?

If those shops have paid a fortune for Galaxy merchandise, I suspect they are in for some grief.  I can't imagine anyone I know buying anything, except maybe any half half gear if someone has it.

Hold off until post New Year and there will be tables of the kit at a fraction of the cost.  Half the indoor teams in Wellington will be in Galaxy gear.  Most of it doesn't even have Beckham or 23 on it.

Very true, I was stupid enough to pay $240 for a "limited edition" half and half AB/British Lions adidas shirt as a momento, that Christams, $65......terrific.   Bloody egg chasing money grabbers (and my stupidity)!!

You're having a laugh, he was OK and one of the better players but Crouch was head and shoulders (pun absolutely intended) above anyone else on the park in an England shirt.

I was going on the ratings from the esteemed publication that is The Sun.

Both players scored 7/10. I guess Crouch takes 'best player' as he was on longer. Still, I'm sure you can appreciate the point I was making.

I can indeed, I was calling for him to start, even if just for his talisman qualities.

However, Beckham playing with heart and soul for England to qualify for a major competition is a million miles away from him playing for LA united in a knock around.

Circus.

I think we should all stick with RYOS (Lambton Quay) and CHAMPS (CUBA MALL) who are all great blokes and supported Team Wellington, YF and the Phoenix from the start.

Luis Garcia - if you call or email either store they most probably will post you over what you need.

You're not alone, I ran into Cnut today and he was sporting one I'm thinking of getting one of the yellow training tops myself actually, but I'd wear it UNDER my Phoenix kit come Dec 1

I don't for the life of me understand buying a Galaxy top... if we get some half/half scarves somewhere (say the club shop late next week) I might be keen, but I stopped following the Galaxy when Simon Elliott left so I don't for the life of me understand why anyone would buy one ahead of some Phoenix gear.

As for shops with Galaxy gear that have never stocked an All Whites or Phoenix shirt ?  That is a travesty.

Yeah, but what's gonna happen now that Sony are the major sponsor?

Are they going to print all these new jerseys or something? If so, the jerseys they have now will come down in price wont they?
