^ yep that would be my preferred route

Great stat on Ava station though. Lady at my work mentioned she liked the idea of a Petone stadium but couldn't be bothered walking all the way from the station... so just now I told her about Ava and it made her day

Well my map that I did says that's lies. its 200m further from Ava or Petone Station. But if you get a bus to Jackson St you've halved your concourse walk.

Of course if they build the stadium at the other end of the Rec it will be shorter.

According to the measuring tool built into Google Maps they are virtually identical (from the top right hand corner of the rec to Ava is 681m, from the train station to the stadium is 680m) however the stadium is proposed to be on the opposite side of the rec, and also that assumes you can just walk through peoples backyards / houses or can fly, which you can't so it will be quite a bit longer.

However IMO Jackson St makes up for the longer distance.

Good piece.

I imagine a lot of the negative submissions will be along the lines of "I won't be able to walk my dog through the park anymore" which is untrue and fairly irrelevant, so submissions like this will be largely ignored.

It's about quality of submissions, not quantity.

Exactly. Just like that example I posted recently about he high rise building where I live, the opposition had literally no argument, they opposed it because they didn't want change. The council realised this and went ahead with allowing the resource consent.

I haven't read all of this thread but I don't agree with the opponents of this development being called NIMBYs. Maybe some are but I don't think they are the majority. A NIMBY is someone who opposes something which is useful to a region because of negative affects on themselves. The wind farm at Makara is a great example. It was a development which obviously needed to go ahead and that was the logical place for it to go. Some of the opponents have genuine reasons for not wanting the stadium in Petone (loss of community resources) which is a NIMBY argument but an understandable one.

I think other people simply oppose the stadium full stop. They see that we already have a good stadium in Wellington and that their council should not have to pay $25 million to something of questionable benefit. The risks are relatively high. What if the 'nix fold? I don't think most of the opposition does come from NIMBYs but comes from people who think the council has better way of spending their money. I'm not saying whether or not the stadium will be cost effective but it is worth knowing what you are arguing against.

Judging by so e of the feedback, the rugby and various anti movements dont really put up a hard arguement other than "because" and "think of the children". I bave 5 mins to reaffirm my point on the poditive finaciwl current, wnd future implications for this area. Will type up my submission and post a copy here. Certainly do t wish to embarrass myself, not theclub nir my fellow Nix fans.

Wed 28 May, Wainui Chambers, Wainui Library at 16:50. I put in a submission about the financial benefits and got a phone call asking if I'd like to speak. I thought, time to stand up and be counted and told them I'd be happy to. Just typing up my speech. I've got between 3 & 5 mins to make my point and 3 mins to answer any questions.

How much per year does this stadi add on to the local rates bill per year anyone? I heard it was only $8 but I'd prefer to be factual.

It does seem a lot like the local media are reporting more on those who are against it than those positives for it. Anyone suspect an agenda there? They're very quick to dismiss any information given to them that would help the arena (like my email to the editors about the NIMBYs, which was good stuff and worth reporting on imo).

Has been moved from Wainui to the Petone Workingmans Club. The council said there was so much interest that they decided to move it to a bigger venue. Not afraid to take the cause on in their backyard.

Yes, there were about three people there in the audience and not a Rugby fan in sight. There was a submission from combined hutt valley clubs. I got there 45 mins early to listen. The hutt valley clubs submission was sent in but they did not go over it. In fact in 10 minutes they seemed to keep on referring to their submission without actually stating what it was to the listening audience. I heard 4 groups give theirs before I gave mine, of which I will post mine.  However, the committee and the mayor did say that they found my own one refreshing and different to the others that they had heard that day. They seemed fairly happy with it. I was only asked one question. How did I feel about drunken fans everywhere? I told them that we had a few drunks in the first few seasons but then a solid core of Nix fans about 6,000 in numbers show up at games now and that they did so because they love football and love the Nix. Not for getting drunk at. So don't let me/us down you guys. :).

Oh and there about 12 councellors and the mayor on the panel.
