And unsurprisingly the damning stat is that bloody goals against.
Ricki needs to sort his sh*t out and put some focus on
defence. It's all well and good being an attacking team and
not bowing to the typically defensive minded NZ way, but being
defensively oriented and defensively competent are two completely
different things. At the moment we are neither.
I don't think it is simple enough to only look at the backs,
the central midfielders need to help our central defenders a bit
more. But a bit more solid technique from everyone wouldn't
go astray!

at the start of the season, i was saying I'd feel ok if we finished
7 th, and happy with 6th
but as the season has progressed on the overall quality of our football i'd be gutted if we don't finish in the top six,
but that table doesn't make easy reading,
not a great afternoon, i'm about to see if a wee dram will help take the edge of my mood

Bloody CCM - they've only scored 10 goals and 5 of them have been
against the Phoenix!
That makes 5 goals scored in their other 7 games...
They are top of the table because of their goals against (or
rather, lack of...)

How true! Makes for shocking reading!
Also I like this idea of changing to a 4-4-2 formation - Smeltz simply doesn't have the speed and the quality of balls aren't coming to him consistantly for a 4-5-1 formation.
Come of Ricky! Lets sort it out!!

i think wellington need to get there act together before perth and
sydney do or we could end up last i think itll be a 6th place
finish for us with sydney 7th level on points with us and perth
close behind although i and everyone on this site knows that we can
beat the top sides we need to actually do it and not make any more
stupid mistakes like todays loss

Exactly! Herbert needs to be ruthless and not expect 'only to
compete' and score a few goals. We need to start
winning. If players are f**king up, cut them and get them on
the training field earning back their spot. No more Mr Nice
Guy!

Personally I don't care where we finish this year - every time I
see Phoenix play I still get this jolt of sheer pleasure
and surprise at seeing a Wellington team competing in the A
League. The club so far seems well managed, has good players, great
spirit, fantastic supporters and a lot of potential.
That said I can't bear the thought of finishing bottom and
having all the I-told-you-so idiots sniggering at another NZ
failure. Credibility is no bad thing to play for in your first
season in existence.

I think people need to get back down to reality, to be honest. It's
our first season - it was ALWAYS going to be tough coming up
against teams that have had a lot more time to hone comibations.

I think Perth will be licking their lips at the prospect of a vist
by the Phoenix. We need to get it sorted now.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Yeah, get us back on the winning bandwagon. Although definitely not
a given 3 points, Perth were class in their second half last night.

dont worry, i dont think we will finish last, i think over the
course of the next 3 weeks we will know where we are at, we have 3
very tough away matches and we need to take something from them.
MON THE PHOENIX!
