If we have no chance of winning the league from 6th then our goal should be:
a) to finish high enough on the table to have a chance of winning the league (I would say top 3 or 4).
b) if a is not achievable then we should try to position ourselves to finish top 3 next season.
This has been a goal for every season so far...last year was good albeit except for the bit that mattered.

This is true. A top 6 push would definitely increase crowds towards the pointy end of the season. Obviously, I would rather have a 1/100 chance by coming 6th than a 0/100 chance by coming 7th.
