GREAT SUCCESS!

Rob, you saw him at our game against the galaxy as well huh? Borat.

Id we can sneek a couple of draws or wins away, then we'll have done alright for a first season. I'm hoping we beat Sydney but not in a nail biter, 4-0 would be nice !!

have you got shares in a private hospital that specializes in heart conditions, OOE ??

I agree that a thriller is more fun than a walkover, but my heart rate has gone through the roof  sometimes this season!!

I bags a 3-0 win with a few moments of Mossy brilliance for the excitement factor

I'm out of nails at the moment, so I want to see us thrash a couple of teams.

I'd much rather win 3-0 than 3-2, thank you very much.

Wasn't it? I thought it woulda been best for us in terms of grabbing the 4th play off spot.

Draw would have kept sydney out of contention, and  plus we also have Sydney to play at home.
Its lil bit complicated for me on this Satday morning.

I say tackle him in the face.

So as long as Melbourne do no better than win by 2 goals, we stay 6th. Sweet as.

We've got to play Melbourne, CCM and Bling. Bling at home. We win all of them, end up on 29 points.

So we need 9 points to the jets three in three more games, two of which are away against CCM and Melbourne and a home game against Sydney. I think we can describe our hopes as faint..but tonight at least kept those faint hopes alive. Best performance of the season

Makes you think about all those "what ifs", doesn't it. The last minute blunders, the coughed up points. Just another three and we'd still be in the mix.

Penalty conceded against Sydney at home - result 1-1 - should have been 1-0 - two points dropped
Brownlie hits post in final seconds vs Melbourne in opening game - result 2-2 - could have been 3-2 - two points dropped
Defensive mix-up at the end of CCM game at home - result 2-1 to them - should have been 1-1 - one point dropped
Vaughan heads wide against 10-man Adelaide which would have made it 2-1; instead they won 2-1 - three points dropped

That's eight points right there....the Phoenix would be third...

Funny old game.......

Great, looking at the table's goals against column it looks like Perth are making a charge to take the 'Leaky Boot' award from us. Come on Glory!

nice to see both Perth and Melb with worse goal diff than us,

that won't help us make the playoffs (which would be a bit of a miracle anyway) but should help us continue to gain respectability in this league

Listening to the commentary of last nights game it sounds as though the 'Nix have already gained considerable respect from the league and the opposition.

certainly heading in that direction, for me this season has always been about credibility rather than a top four placing

the tv commentators persisted in predicting a Jets comeback with incessant broken record comments about our defence (perhaps more aussie bias rather than a lack of respect)

The comment i "enjoyed" the most was that the phoenix defence couyldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag! hilarious - true the aussie commentators were a bit rough on the nix defence, but to be fair it was nothing we all haven't already said or identified - they did comment that the nix have signed or are going to sign Sigmund for next year. Most other things they said were very positive,

It was always going to be just a matter of time before the Aussies get used to the fact there is a competitive NZ side in their league finally. To be fair to them, they have the right to be wary!!!

Add to that the 1-1 draw with Queensland, Coveny misses a relatively good chance, 1 on 1 with the keeper. 10 points gone....

So it looks like we have to overtake Adelaide and Newcastle to finish 4th.

Should we win all our 3 games, we finish up with 29 points.

So from Newcastle's 3 games (Adelaide, Mariners and Perth) the most they can make for us to still finish fourth is 4 points (and we need a hell of a lot of goals scored and NONE against).

And from Adelaide's 3 games (Newcastle, Perth and Queensland), the most they can make is 7 points (out of a possible 9, so they could draw one game and win all the others and we're sweet - again, remember the GOAL DIFFERENCE).

To be honest I can't see Perth beating Newcastle, so from they MUST draw to Adelaide and lose (by a LOT) to Central Coast.

Should we get that oh so important draw between Newcastle and Adelaide, they would then have to win both of their games (and would probably screw up at Queensland), just to give themselves a tiny little chance of being in the playoffs.

I know that means we have to beat Central Coast and Melbourne away, but who knows, we came close to beating Melbourne away last time, and we could just cause an upset at Bluetongue.

I know its hopeful, but please tell me there are other hugley optimistic Phoenix fans out there?

It's mathematically possible! which means I'll be hoping and believing it will happen until its a totally lost cause - as long as we win each game it can be done!!!!

So far, every match this round has gone our way!

Now, if we can beat Sydney at home, Newcastle and Adelaide draw and the other results also go our way (Queensland beat Melbourne and CCM beat Perth, both of which seem likely) then we will be one point behind Adelaide and only 3 behind Perth. If this all happens next week I might just start believing. Even if we don't break the top4 we have a genuine opportunity to finish in 5th place which would still be an incredible result!

I believe we have what it takes to beat a struggling Melbourne side, so it could all come down to that last game against CCM. If the Mariners can lock up top spot before we play them they could well rest their better players in the final round, improving our chances even further!
