No point in looking back what what might of been, if you do that you'll never go forward. atleast they are sitting in 5th.

Watching the likes of Sydney and Melborne last night, looked very average.

all in our own hand now, we just need to keep scoring goals and not conceeding them = wins which = 3 points.

top 6 is definately possible, and should be expected, getting through to the finals very possible especially with the current squad.

Of those 10 draws, at least half of them we could say that we've 'lost 2 points' rather than 'won 1'.

That said, we can still finish in the top-4 and get a home playoff, which would be immense.

Of those 10 draws, at least half of them we could say that we've 'lost 2 points' rather than 'won 1'.....

I don't agree - here is a different view to the view we have been unlucky and if, if, if ....

I actually think we have had a reasonable balance of good and bad luck and a pretty even bounce of the ball (good and bad) over the course of the season todate.

E.g. Our win against Perth was courtesy of a well placed Perth defenders knee (taking nothing away from very sweetly struck free kick), but for Vignaroli tripping over his own feet we wouldn't have beaten Newcastle away and if Sigmund's punch had of been seen by the ref he would have been off and a penalty awarded. I can remember Lochhead getting away with a couple of dodgy nudges in the box as well.

Yes we have dominated possession and territory in some games, as well as shots on goal, and only come away with a point but that has more to do with the players taking the shots not being "finishers" and the lack of a second striker.

However;

I have always thought we were good enough to make the play-offs and, now we finally have a second striker, with Greeny coming back, Ifill freed up to play his natural game, Leo starting to show form, Caceres looking great off the bench etc etc I think we could beat any team on our day and with playoff football being one off games anything could happen once we get in to the play-off rounds.

You could also say that 10 draws could of been 10 losses. I'm happy that Phoenix is in 5 position on the table. better then last.

Securing 3rd or 4th would be great...and I'd expect at least 12k (if not more) for the first foray into post-season football for any NZ football franchise in the NSL/A-League

Fair points made...I still think our tally slightly understates I guess what we 'deserve'...though football can be a cruel game.

We got 10k for a midweek preseason cup final. I'd say 15 or more would be hopeful.chocnut2010-01-11 23:41:06

Taking the glass half full approach, at least with those 10 draws, we now face 6 opponents who haven't beaten us this season in a total of 12 matches. (Melb, Adel, Fury 2 draws, Perth, GCU and CCM 1 win, 1 draw)

Sydney, Brisbane, Newcastle all out of the way now.

Of course, in this league, it probably means we'll lose 4 or 5 of those last 6.

Sorry, did I say half full...?

looking good. Hopefully perth draw with Adelaide or even lose. Which would make our game a good advantage if we can take something from Melbourne

Hmmmmmmmmmmm..all very tight.  A win from anyone below and it gets interesting.  Draws are fine if they all lose!  Unlikely tho so 2 home wins will be great.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Where are the doom and gloom merchants from 2 weeks ago that said we were a crap side and our season was over?

The reality is the closeness of the league is that you can be 4th one week, and 9th the next. Just the doom and gloom merchants can't see that.

Don't forget Jeff, next week is probably a must win. If we don't pick up three points on Friday our season is over.

This is a totally bizarre league. if the Fury beat us next week then they join us on 28 points but at the moment our goal difference with the Fury is 20....us +6, them -14....how weird is that?

Our top 6 finish is loking good but is not a given. We should take 3 against the Fury BUT, what will define our final position will be the following week.

Away to Perth in what is the second longest football trip in the world, against a good Perth side who are very tough at home. We then fly toMelbourne for the midweeker. melbourne have dipped lately and are now in 3rd. They will be desperate for points so expect a very tough game. We then travel to ChCh for Adelaide. Not a home game IMO. Normally at the ROF I would say the Nix for 3 points. But after the week thay have had, fatigue will be a problem.

So what does Ricki do to combat travel fatigue and 3 games in a week?
Is rotation an option? We have guys like Siggy, Caceras Greenacre etc who could come in and not weaken the side. We should be aiming at a minimum of 4 points from that week. Any less and we risk being overtaken on the league table

This year's record versus last year's after 21 games (which was the completion of the league).
 PlWDLFAGDPts2009/1021610529236282008/09217592331-826
Obviously some massive improvements in key areas there but not much to show for it points wise. 28 points last year, however, would have seen us sneak into 4th place and the play-offs (on goal difference) at the expense of the Mariners.

pretty clear which season is the better one, first target is surely win more games, done, second maintain a + goal diff, done! thirdly finish on more points than last year - achieved so far.....once you've done all that you can go to the owner and say we've improved.....the rest should take care of itself....

Except we haven't won more games. But point taken! This year does feel like such a massive improvement over last. That's why I was quite surprised to find out we had only secured 2 more points. Those f**king draws man!
