Hyundai A-League 2010 Champions Sydney FC today announced the signing of goalkeeper Liam Reddy to a three-year contract.

Reddy played a starring role in Wellington Phoenixs run to the A-League Preliminary Final this season and will join Ivan Necevski in the Sky Blues goal keeping ranks with the pair to battle it out for the sides starting position from day one of preseason.

The 28-year-old shot stopper has played 101 A-League games since debuting for the Newcastle Jets in 2005 and joins Sydney FC the side who boasted the premier defence in season 2009/10.

What a time to be joining Sydney FC, Reddy said. I am really happy to back in my hometown and I am here to do whatever it takes to continue the success the club had this year.

I had a strong season with Wellington and it was some of the best football I have played. I am going to work as hard as I can continue my own form but be part of winning team.

The prospect of working under Vitezslav, Tony, Michal and especially John Filan is an amazing opportunity and is something that doesnt come along very often. There are a lot of excellent players here as well and playing alongside them will be special.

Even though the club achieved so much this season it is still hungry for more. I want to be a part that culture and I feel I can add to it.

Sydney FC is an excellent club, current champions and has the Asian Champions League on the horizon so it is an exciting time.

Reddy, who added nine clean sheets and 75 saves to his A-League career this season, will begin preseason training with his new Sky Blue teammates on June 7.

Liam showed he is a very talented goal keeper with the season he had and was a major part in Wellingtons success, Sydney FC goalkeeping coach John Filan said. He is aggressive and strong in the air and has a safe pair of hands.

He made plenty of world class saves throughout the year plus he also rose to the occasion and made a number of crucial saves in penalty shoot outs during the finals.

That shows he is also mentally strong. He has a lot of potential and being here at Sydney FC we expect him to take that to another level.

We have two outstanding keepers at the club and they will push each other to new heights.

Sydney FC CEO Edwin Lugt said the club was extremely pleased to have secured the services of Reddy and would now focus on furtherer strengthening the teams roster.

Liam comes to the club with big wraps and under the guidance of John Filan and the clubs coaching staff has the potential to be a terrific keeper and important part of the team, Lugt said.

The club will now continue to work on adding more players in key positions on the field.

Still, thanks Liam for a terrific season for us, and all the best. You have become a legend of the club in a few short games.

Looking forward to seeing Pasty back next season.

Paston a bit of an anti climax for me

Ah well, all the best to him, he did a bloody good job while he was here. Hopefully he takes the opportunity to exact some revenge on Chris Payne

When he comes back to the RoF and is walking to the YF end goal, we should all give him a huge applause.

Sorry to see him go but Pasty has been great for us as well, and its good that he'll continue to get game time.

He did bloody well for us but not that sad to see him leave, to be honest. I very much doubt he will keep up that form - which was pretty easily career best, imo - and now I can go back to thinking he's a bit of a dickhead.

Class act and wish him all the best he gave a 100% for us and was arguably the form keeper in the a-league.

Snap.

Actually I was gobsmacked at how well he played for us, having chortled happily for the last couple of seasons at his legendary blunders and dummy-spits. J Gould, Ricki, the entire, stable professionally run Nix set up - perhaps this is the key to him performing to his potential and behaving like a grown up.

He did really well for us and added to our success this season, can't ask for more than that and I'd like to add my thanks and best wishes for the future.

Reading some of these comments we don't exactly encourage people back into the fold do we?

Yep -agree totally.

He's one that I will not jeer when he comes back to RoF (unless he gives our lads some grief).

Old News. Didn't we already know when he came to us that he was signing with them. Seems people are still surprised.

yeah we never did have a chance to retain him.
what a pity. he has been amazing, one of the best keepers in the competition. I personally never minded Paston, who is a valid keeper. But I think that Reddy and Mossy (in this order) have been better than him.
Hope he will find the best the best form (Paston) for next year, and good luck to Reddy!

Reddy's form for us has probably been his best in 5 A-League seasons.  Would be fantastic if thatwas his peak and we'd have these great memories.

You are so right. The last couple of years at the Roar he was crap.

Got no hard feelings towards him at all. He was signed knowing that he was headed to Sydney, and was the right man at the right time to come in and fill in for Paston. Performed above expectations, and moves on with my best wishes. I hope he gets a good reception when they come to Wellington next season, and that he then proceeds to let in 6.

I thought the same thing while he was at Brisbane - and then I met him and he turned out to be a very cool guy.

The first thing he asked me when he found out where I was from was if I was a Dinamo or Hajduk fan. Hmm, a lot a wasses in that sentence. Anyway. Good man, wish him all the best.

They talk on foxsports news was he could be a potential socceroo in the next couple of years, which is good to know players can come to the phoenix like Mckain or Dura and can get into the national team frame.

Dickhead on the field doesn't mean dickhead off the field of course

Wish him well but like I said, I think he peaked with us and hope his form has a horrible dip at Sydney :) Don't think anyone can quite believe how well he played with us, really, especially considering he was injured for most of it. Maybe it's because there was no real pressure on him - his future was already sealed with Sydney.

I just channel flicked past the Paremata game and we got a name check in the Eels vs Tigers game.

Reddy's brother scored a try after jumping to take a cross field bomb.  "...looked like his brother Liam coming for a ball, the goalkeeper, think he's with the Wellington Phoenix isn't he ?"
