A text just came through saying the Nix is eligible to compete in the A-league until at least 2015.

More details to follow soon on the Phoenix website.

This is great news for all concerned but especially Terry, Tony and Ricki who have invested plenty of blood, sweat and tears (not to mention serious $s in Terry's case) to get the club up and running.

The announcement will also position us to recruit very good players with current and potential players knowing the club will be around for a number of years to come.

The fine print of the extension will be interesting - particularly as it relates to the definition of foreign players.

Yeah same. Damn it the text I was hanging out for most of all for the past year and I don't have enough credit on the ol' phone to receive it!

Still, outstanding news.

...and it had a reply from me in it too.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

If a thread is deleted and nobody can see it, then was it ever really there?

Call me fik like but where does this most excellent news emanate from ?

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.

A repost of a thread that I made (subsequently hidden), of which the information came from PHONE-NIX.

2015; not ten years, but better than a kick in the arse.

So, no word on ACL for that timeframe yet? :)

"However the club's future involvement in the Asian Champions league has yet to be resolved.

A club spokesman added: "As this deal stands, it is for the A-League only. However, it is an important step toward sorting out the ACL issue.""

Good to see he's warming to us or have we just worn him down

"OFC president Reynald Temarii met with AFC counterpart Mohamed Bin Hamam at a Fifa meeting in Zurich last month, with both confederation bosses agreeing the Phoenix's licence to play in the Hyundai A-League should be extended."

I'm very happy obviously but hopefully they aren't just throwing us a 5 year-long bone until they sort out how to kick us out with minimal fuss. Why isn't it 10 years if everything has been resolved like they said?

Oh well, still in a better position than we were - definitely. Thanks probably have to go to Lowy - if he didn't support us fully we wouldn't be in the league at all.

5 years as opposed to the Australian-based clubs getting 10 is "interesting" Hack.

ACL access for WPFC still seems a thorny issue as well, and Oceania will (with NZ as the biggest nation in it) remain a stand alone confederation for 5 years at least.

That's how I interpreted the info.

I got wierd 3 weird txts with spaces between every letter which made very little sense before I ran out of credit, a bit pissed off about that actually.

Great news though.
You know we belong together...

I think everyone ran out of credit. Everyone I know who got the texts got an out of credit message as well.

I got that thing he sent me.

Good news. Wanted 10. But 5 is good enough. Now we just need a youth team.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

The press release didn't cover the Youth Team issue. ACL status seems unlikely but you should call the genuises at the FFA for the Youth Team. You've got 5 years, go and hound them.

Tegs, it's hard to relay my thoughts on the computer, but I'd love to see how the FFA are going to handle the question.

If the Youth comp is part funded by the Aust Govt, I'd love to see what they say to WPFC, now that WPFC have 5 years extra.

Go and hound them, seriously, we want to see what Buckley is made of.

They claim that Buckley is busy 'with the World Cup bid', but yeah, Tony and Terry should go and hound him about the Youth Spot. I'm hanging to see his response.

"Formal ratification of the agreement will come at Fifas executive committee meeting in Johannesburg in June."

I would like to see what these formal ratifications become of. possibly:
1. New Zealanders as foreigners or possibly Australians as foreigners
2. The Socceroo marquee possibly becomming an All White Marquee
3. A youth team in either nzfc or Youth League
4. ACL/ OCL? participation

will see some intresting results, also interested to see why only a 5 year extension rather than a 10 year
