Rightly or wrongly, Fairfax own the local news market in Wellington, and they have to be part of the nix's marketing efforts. One key thing for Welnix to do is keep fairfax onside.

Rob Morrison:
Yes - Ricki has been working on that. We will definitely be able to announce the signing of additional players before the start of the season.

Question from Alen: Pre-season results for the Phoenix haven't been particularly promising. Are there plans to sign some good players within the next several days to give us a good chance this season?

- Promising bit of info.

Well we have to sign 3 more players before the start of the season. Silly question.

Not really.  They are required to sign 3 players before the first game.

I don't think its a silly question.

The key word is "good"

Good on him for opening dialogue with fans.
I think his answers have been pretty good so far as well.

Yeah, but Rob didn't say anything about the quality of player.

Already there has been better questions than at the Press Conference

You are right that the fan base is broader than the Wellington region; we've allowed scope for "home games" to be played away from Wellington. Obviously this year pre-season games have been played in Dunedin and Tauranga, and we will look to play regular season games in other centres. That said, the vast majority of games will be played in Wellington

selfishly wanting Napier.

But still believe the wgtn phoenix belong in the rof.mikecj2011-09-26 12:27:11

Ooh, "player academies and developments squads". Also, not sacking Ricki.

The Dominion Post: Question from Makk: Will Ricki have the full salary cap to spend on players? What about extras for any marquee, local marquee and youth marquee players?

Rob Morrison: Yes he will have the full salary cap and he is looking at a range of options in terms of player signings.

Good stuff, asked this question too.

Q:

Follow-up question from Matt Holland, season ticket holder: As a Wellington season ticket holder I'm disappointed to hear games will be played in other parts of the country. Football and Sport in general is based on who you are and where you are from. Would marketing Wellington as the home of football be a better solution than turning Wellington Phoenix in to a circus substitute National side.

A:

"To be clear, over the next two years, we will not play more than one regular season game per season as a "home game" away from Wellington. We understand that the Hyundai A-League plan to expand the league giving us more games per season and if that happens that will give us the flexibility to look at playing more home games away."

Question from Elad: Should fans now buy their petrol from Z, invest in Gareth Morgan Kiwisaver, and change their bank accounts to Kiwibank?

Rob Morrison:
Although there is no link between those businesses and the Phoenix, I wouldn't talk you out of doing any of the above.

I like this guy.

yeah he gave all the right answers without any specifics, but to be fair to him and the rest, they've only been in charge a day! Going to be a hard start for the team this season regardless.
but hey, we got ourselves a Wellington team still!!!!  :)

Now lets see...
-lifelong Liverpool supporter,
-5 year goal of making Nix profitable, self-sustaining,
-they're keen to maintain current sponsors already in talks with possible new ones,
-minimum player roster achieved  in time for season start deadline,
-Ricki has full salary cap to work with,
-investment in long term NZ player development that will involve player acadamies and development squads,
-will look at possibility of more Beckham/LA Galaxy-type exhibition games,
-Nix will be playing in other NZ centres, though specifically just 1 home match per season away-from the RoF in present competition format,
-if not actively participating, certainly reads the YF forums,
-will keep the Nix in Wellington and WELLINGTON in the Nix,
-a new Board with wide skill base that will include football expertise,......

Yes, very early days but ...What's not to like, people???!!!
(Actually, he had me at the first line above, but that's just me.. )

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

I guess at this stage he wouldn't be able to say who they plan on bringing the football expertise. Any thoughts on who it should be? Given his high profile, would people here accept if they went for Wynton Rufer?
