Yes i agree but it has alot over the a-league, all im saying is my opinion i think league is a way better game and it would be sad to see it pushed out jsut so another nation can have soccer as there preferred sport.

You can't compare a world event to a domestic comp. Anyway good on Aussie if they manage to take football number 1 over there, i mean the rest of the world can't be wrong can they?

yea i also agree thats why i want it to do well casue if the managment of international/ Interstate league dont get there sh*t together league with stay in qld and nsw for ever. league is the national sport of png and if the managment were good enough they would have them playing in the nrl and internatioal rugby league would be alot better.

Well for 1 i can't stand cricket and im just saying it would be sad to see league go australia is the 1 of 2 countrys to have a serious league competion. Imagine if the roles were reversed and soccer was only based in aus and england. And soccer loses all it's support in australian. Well thats how i feel about it.

Warriors look forget the code arguement, its simple in OZ we have four football codes and this is how they rank
 
Crowd wise
 
AFL average about 36, 000 per match over 176 matches
S14 averages about 21, 000 per match over 23 matches
NRL averages about 16, 000 per match over 160 matches
A-League averages about 14, 700 per match over 84 matches
ARC averageabout 2, 700 per match over 28 matches
 
TV Rating wise
 
Free to air TV (only NRL & AFL)

The big difference is the A-league is expanding and when its gets a few more dollars from the TV income it will grow more. AFL & NRL are in hoding patterns and Union is in steep decline.
 
So the A-League is ecpanding to 10 teams next year and 12 after that.
 
Another huge , nay massive difference is in OZ, matches between say the Melbourne Storm and Easts are simply two teams. Where as the A-League matches have developed a real state of orgin fell to them especially between the Flying Choppers , Tards (Melbourne) and the Roar (Brisbane). Also the derby matches or should I say match between the Scum (newcastle) and the mighty Mariners (saints one and all) are full on alomost everyone at the match is in team colours.
 
So Warriors clam down mate, NRL will be fine, in football I am confident enough that with the A-League, the Asian Champions league, the Pan Asian competition, with Australia playing in Asia, football with excellent management and played in 204 countries with 380 million players (cough sorry cough) yes 380 million players world wide including 80 million women players that I don't need to bag out other sports.
 
Just wonder why supporters of other codes seem so intent on bagging football out???????????

Well if rugby league had decent managment it would be a pretty big sport in other countries. look in the usa 12000 turned out to the leeds vs rabbitohs game and the stadium campacity is only susposed to 10000. And thats thanks to Russel Crowe and Peter Holmes Acourt and it shows thats if the internatinal rugby magagment put as much effort as russel Crowe plus money behiond it League could maybe in 20-30 years be a world wide sport.

League in OZ is at its peak capacity, rugby is a dog. Football has enormous potential to expand.
 
The growth in interest in the A-League has been amazing in only its 3rd year. Fox TV report a 30 % increase in viewership, crowd number are up. There is huge interest in the Socceroos world cup campaign. The Australian Govt has just anounced it is pouring $31 million into football development over the next 3 years. A healthy expanding game in Australia must also be good for kiwi football.

yea it's at its high now but in 2-3 years it will be back down to adverage crowd numbers and rugby league is not at it's peak

The A-league is set to add up to two new teams this year, plus two more in a couple of years time. Thats four new franchises with more planned after that. How many more League teams will we see?         Answer= 0
 
Anyway I get sick of these comparisons between codes. Who cares... I hope they all thrive. Makes life for a sporting fan more interesting. A-League football is mainly a summer code anyway. We don't go head to head with Super14, League or AFL. There is room for everone!!!!!!

Wrong. Football is contagious. It's the simplicity and flow of the game, with the balance of speed, strength, skill, and strategy that draws people to it. It has a combination of factors like no other sport. That's why now that it is finally on tv in  Australia, showing live games each week, people are starting to realise this sport has huge appeal. The rest of the world has known it for much longer, but that's ok.

I found the 0-0 draw against Newcastle in the preseason much more exciting than most NRL matches I've seen. It's all about emotional investment. If you find football boring, chances are you don't care about either team.

Scoring and excitement are NOT the same thing. Anyone who thinks otherwise should stick to watching highlights packages, because that is what appeals to them, not sport itself.

Well, to be honest, 0-0 draws can be quite dull if the game is not exciting.

The Newcastle pre-season game a) was the final game in the series so there was a lot on the line adding to excitement, and b) ended in a penalty shootout.

Compare that to the recent QLD v SYD 0-0 draw. Not nearly as interesting TBH.

A 0-0 halfway through a regular season CAN be quite boring.

No comment on the whole football code sh*t fight. Boring.

Agreed Rob. Going back to the 06 World Cup one of the most exciting games was between Trinidad & Tobago and Sweden and that finished 0-0, but it was great to watch because there was still lots of action and throughout it you were always willing T&T to hold out and they did, even more so when they went down to 10 men early in the 2nd half. So yes 0-0 draws can still be exciting.

One of the best 0-0 draws I ever saw was Italy v England in Rome in a WC qualifier some years back. Just an enthralling game for the whole 90 minutes. 
 
Did you know that rugby began as a sport when the first official football match (held in England) ended in a 0-0 draw. A small number of interested parties said, "f**k this for a joke, not even a single goal" and went off and started a different version of the game, namely what rugby became. Bit of trivia for you.

Not necessarily incorrect Smithy. It may be that the Rugby Union was formed after the 0-0 game. Either way, it was something significant like that.  But as you say, off topic.

Swindon Town Vs Nottingham Forrest, Boxing Day, can'tremember the year (around 98/99 I think).  What a 0-0 that was!

There are plenty of people on here and throughout NZ football that manage to support the Warriors and football.

Best to ignore one half-arsed troll who will never understand the passion of football... writing off a 0-0 draw is generally the last result of the ill-informed.

In football, a goal could become, say, 6 points. Maybe a goal from open play 6 points, and a set piece goal 3 points. a 4-3 win for instance could end up actually being 24-18. That way it has the APPEARANCE of being more high-scoring. That may satisfy those who are that way conditioned.
