i was thinking Killen, but then too realised it would be Ifill.

Who is left to re-sign now though?

Great to get him ticked off first because once youve got him, Durante & Muscat locked in for next season, itd be easy enough to get most of the rest of the squad if needed.

I'm trying to work out why I'm not excited. I think it's a combination of the fact I always thought he would re-sign (he is so much a Nix player and so committed to the club and Wellington) and the realisation that the 3 year wait forthat elusiveclassstriker continues.

This is how I'm feeling too. 'Major Announcement' a little anti-climactic but still good news

Huh. I should probably post more.

This does not make you cool, however  your old school Duke Nukem avatar does!

Please also note I have shopped it to make the gunfire spew from his mouth, as I am want to do.

I say "shopped" because "MS Painted" doesn't quite have the same sense of class to it.

Back on topic, despite being angry for the stupid lead-on, I would still rather keep Ifill than lose him and sign Killen any day of the week.

Quite significant news in my opinion.

This means that the Justified Ancients have gotten their collective heads around what needs doing and are starting to get a little more proactive.

I Remember reading in an article on the YF home page a while back that Ifill was the current marquee player...any news if this is still the case? (or if im dreaming of reading that)

the re-signing of our key player is a very big piece of news, and should be treated as such.

Looking at it another way, it was an announcement about one of our major players.

I'll take that - especially with another couple of A-League clubs supposedly snooping around for him.  Good to see him here for a couple more years.

Love Paul Ifill and all he does, he is great for the team and the club and I'm very happy with this news. A major endorsement of the club from him too

Agree  very significant.
Hopefully it will encourage our other senior pros who are off contract at the end of the season to do the same.

Very happy he has re-signed, that's 1 of the 4 import slots sorted for next season. Lets hope for more of the same level of quality.

I'll give you a different perspective. If Man U had said:

"MAJOR PLAYER NEWS, ROONEY RE-SIGNS FOR ANOTHER 2 YEARS' everyone would have gone 'huh?'

Its not major news because we already have him, he is on record as wanting to stay and the club are on record as wanting to keep him. Please explain to me how this is a big deal when it was telegraphed so long ago and nothing actually changes? To me, major news indicates change, not more of the same which is what this is.

This is why it is not major news.

I think when the mans getting offers from other clubs, but has chosen to stay with us it is big news. A very good sign that our number one player who spoke at length with Rob & Ricki about the Nix future is committing what will most likely be his last 2 years of professional football to us.

Offers he told us about.... Most sports people always tell you they have options because then it keeps the mystery and intrigue with them, gives a 'perceived' higher value and that people are coming to him and not the other way around

You're right, he's clearly making it all up to sound cool. Why would any other A-League club want Paul Ifill? He plays for the Nix, so he must suck.

Thats not the point I'm getting at Doloras and I think you know that. What I am saying is they are all going to tell you they have options even when they don't. Just cause a player says he has options, doesn't mean its actually the case.

I don't understand. Are you saying that Paul Ifill didn't have options? That no-one else was really making him an offer?

It would have been major news if he hadn't re-signed. History is littered with names of players who "wanted to stay at a club who wanted to keep them" but ended up buggering off elsewhere.

The angst would have been unbelievable, so I think it's fairly major that we've re-signed him, especially given that, no doubt, a few other clubs were sniffing around. It shows that we are prepared to dip into the coffers and make a decent offer to hold on to our better players.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Forget Paul Ifill

I'm saying that most players will tell you they have options or teams have approached them even when they don't. SBW, James Maloney... Same rhetoric. Its a bargaining tool. They put it out there that they have options so the team they are currently with have to 'compete' against another offer. It artificially inflates their value or creates a false economy for that players services. Its a negotiating tool/tactic. I'm not saying Paul Ifill did this but when a player tells you that other teams were talking to them, well they all say that.

Not sure why you are trying to downgrade this.

Lets stick with the facts. Ifill had other offers, he wanted and chose to stay here, he is our best player, that is a major player announcement to me.

Hope he stays injury free (and I hope that for all in the squad) and keeps banging them in

you obviously don't remember the massive news story last season (?) when Rooney wasn't going to sign a new contract, and then did.  When he finally signed, it was on the back page of every paper in the UK.

I am not sure you could have picked a worse example to make your point.

Just for the record JV

"I want to thank Ricki and Welnix for showing faith in me and hope I can repay them in the next two and a half years," said Ifill. "It is nice to get offers from other clubs because it means you are doing something right, but after weighing everything up I really wanted to stay.

"I've probably made wrong moves in the past and being at the Phoenix is the most I've enjoyed my football."

Again, as I said in a post above (if you actually read) , forget Paul Ifill. I was talking about players in general.
