Make some noise!

You guys in Wellington should the get local Batacuda percussionists along to the matches. Especially with Brazilians and a yellow theme. They can be found at batacuda.org.nz. When we had South American players at Kingz their fans with drums were more entertaining than the game.

Im not going to play money to hire drummers, ill just give my Uncle a few whiskys and have him bang at a drum and itll sound just as good.

While were at it ill ring the greek embasy to send us some bouzoukia and plates to break. OPA.

But yeah thats my opinion. Sorry Cuz.

I don't really like drums at a game...I'd rather hear chanting or singing...It's more footballesk than drums.

Nah drums are awesome. I mean as a beat for when we chant. Not like polynesian styles but just a snare drum or something would be awesome!! And as u said we do have some brazilians so that would be awesome.

it depends. with a big crowd we won't need drums to make noise, but with a small crowd they mite be ok.

but lets get brazilian supporters like this chik to come along.

ye King Douglas farr ur sisters grown up in so many ways. I think shes looking at me. We need to all have yellow tops too or something to stand out in the crowd.

Drummers are about as pathetic as "Alllllll Blaaaaaaaaacks"
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
a beat when u chant is awesome. Just a simple one.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Beats are oh k at times, but sometimes they sound gay and itll end up sounding like a big wad of noise like at the ruggers.

yep - bring on the drums, esp. to make the brazilian players feel at home ...

... better than renditions of "Who ate all the  pies ....."

You don't pay the drummers to come along to matches. You invite them or even just suggest it. A soccer match is one of the few places you can make noise in public without being arrested and drummers are glad for the chance to get a beat going for a big crowd. I'm a loud chanter dating back from the '70s English Div 1 days, but having been a regular at Maracana (similar to the cake tin!) you can't beat a few drums to get you going as well.
You guys who compare rugby to the atmosphere of a Brazilian soccer match must be on another planet. Even the Fijians (Ba FC) at Mt Smart a couple of weeks ago made more noise than the All Blacks matches I've seen. If you don't make noise at a match you may as well watch TV. Wellington is supposed to be absolutely postive.

Drums drown out the crowd at times, maybe one or two would do much harm, i dont want a whole orchestra there tho.

No drummers for at least the first 3 home games- PLEASE
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Hi Nembo, you could always set up a TV down at your local morgue to watch the games.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Haha, ummm drums...yeah.

Would they even be let into the stadium?
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
I think it would be good just to stick with good old voice and lungs.

what? you guys are gonna chant for the full 90? thats being rather confident and one dimensional - bring on the drums!the cowbells!the whistles! yellow fever take one block and batucada take the block next to them and take turns? whats the big deal? gives you guys time to think of more chants and take a breather. i think it would be amazing

Chant for 90 minutes, nah, sing absolutely yes.

If you want to make Brazilians feel at home...
(1) Turn up and welcome them at the airport when they arrive
(2) Get shirts with their names on the back
(3) Think up appropriate songs to sing for them
(4) Live for your team

Agreed I hate the cowbells.  I do not need to be reminded about the Waikato.

Also, you could invite the Brazilians around for a cuppa and a biscuit.

No ive had experience with drums at footy before - big no no

Mate, thats effective because their so many of them and it dont drown them out, at the Cake Tin it would easily drown us out which is why its a big NO

Fair point. But it can be done.

BTW: We don't have to get a 100 dBA drum.

I dont see any logic to this.

Non of us have sung ANY songs at a Phoenix game before, I doubt most of you kiwi born (non Bloc 5) have sang at a game before (unless you do in the NZFC) - and no Weeeeeliiiingtooooon does not count. When we have a decent amount of chants all going ect... then we can go to the next level and be more creative. You're trying to run when you can't even crawl yet, you see my point? And practice sessions is gimpy, make it pre season for 'practice sessions'

Let me spell it out:

By looking at examples of what others do, we can get a feel fro the kind of atmosphere that is possible. All these threads are is chances to play around with some ideas. You're most welcome to contribute your own suggestions. . . .

Many of us have been to games in Europe and know what it's like to participate in this kind of crowd, and we know what affect it can have on the players. Unfortunately we come back here and go to sports events and its back to the old "hurricanses, clap clap clap" shyte again. When we try to suggest some new ways of getting things fired up soemone comes along and tries to pour cold water on it, or some old woman sits next to you with her grand kiddeis and the security guards tell you to sit down and shut up.

Their ain't no harm in trying to explain how/ why we think what they do works so well.

BTW: I agree with you about practice sessions, that's not really necessary.

I know Im as keen as anybody, but I feel some people are jumping the gun a bit here (weve had suggestions of cow bells and Knights hooters)
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

I like the idea of drums but i agree with nembo. Lets see how many others will be chanting first. All your videos are great Phil, but they are being sung by 30,000 + fans.

Phil's right the players react to it.  I know its hard to do when you're 2 nil down, but a song that says we're with you can help get a goal back and make for a decent last 10 minutes.
