Marco didn't play a single minute last year, why are people surprised he's coming off the bench?

He's only just arrived, so is probably learning the coaches system and the style of his team mates. In a couple of months lets judge this move as a failure or not.

Too early to jump on the  JV doomsday bandwagon.

I'm not saying its doomsday at all.

He was signed to play in a dutch 1st division team and depending on which coach they had, he was a vital cog or not playing at all which suggests that he was probably good for coming off the bench if the truth is somewhere in between. Now he has gone out on loan to get minutes and thats awesome but he has gone down a level and yet only getting 15mins a week. Judging by the translation above, it seems they don;t intend to use him. How is this a good move for Marco? You would think dropping down a level, he should get a lot of playing time and if he was, that would be fantastic for him. But he is not.

German JV.       Not sure what you have against Marco, but probably one of the most talented NZ players I have seen in a  long time.

I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING AGAINST MARCO FFS

I am saying, he could have gotten himself a better loan deal but he is getting fucked over where he has gone to. How you think that translates into me having something against Marco is un-fucking-believelable.. Jesus read what is written.

cant see marco getting a starting spot any time soon, barely see's the ball when hes on the pitch, has a pretty crap work rate compared to the rest of the team. Bloody annoying waiting so long to see him in action just to get 15 mins.

No doubting that Marco has talent but the way this cookie is crumbling I don't think there is any shame in admitting that his move to the bundesliga has lost momentum at crucial moments (not his fault) to the point where his present options do not fulfil the step up he was capable of when he left MV. It is not a crime to admit there might be better places for him than the 2. Bundesliga right now - the kid was scouted by Liverpool, I doubt he envisioned lower division football off the bench in Northern Bavaria

I've had a chat with the kleeblatt fans on their forum - they are interested in Marco but hardly excited - his achievements in the a league have faded into the past and he is seen as 'another young and developing attacking option' not a pivot to build a striking partnership around - especially if he disappears at the end of the season. "we hope the nice young man can help our team sometime" would pretty much sum it up.

Watching his goals at his final year at MV, Archie T must have provided the assist on at least 50% of them.....not going to find that kind of synergy coming off the bench for the last 10 minutes of each game for a run around.

I really thought Marco was going to be Ryan Thomas, but Ryan Thomas turned out to be Ryan Thomas - the way he is going there will be a statue of Ryan Thomas in the Zwolle town square by Christmas

He's only just arrived at the club. Give him a chance to settle and then see if he plays.

He has not played a game in a year, how do you think the other players in the team would react if he marched straight in and got 90 mins. How would the guys whose spot he'd taken react. The coach has a team to think about not Marco.

Things have not gone his way. But it is too early to say its a shit move for him. I'll judge it by christmas.

Really? Sorry but I entirely disagree with you.

Coaches are paid to win. Should we apologise to Lia, Ridenton and co cause other midfielders have come in and they are going to see less minutes? What about the guys at Man U that Falcao and Blind came into replace? Exactly like Hanson is bringing in SBW. He is paid to get results and will do so in the manner he sees fit. I don't think he goes 'well Ma'a and Conrad might have a sook if I bring him in'. I don't think Ferguson gave two shits about how some of the players he bought and sold off in the manner he did in his time at Man U. He cared only about winning.

In the business of professional sport, the coach is paid to win and that's all that matters. If you want to be mates and have a beer afterwards and care about how other guys feel about their participation, go play for the weekend warriors where winning comes secondary to sentiment.

To add to that, Ricki Herbert. Nice guy and sung while he was winning. Stayed loyal to players and how did that work for him. He basically got forced out at the Phoenix and there was a small mutiny going on at the AWs...

I don't think Marco's team mates would give a shit if Marco was actually better than them. Like any environment Marco simply has to prove his worth and show what he can do.

I think what people are missing when they say it's a shit move for Marco is he probably had very little say in where he went.

Give him some time. If he's still in the same position in a months time, then I would agree that this was not the best career move

The thing I guess I have considered and you haven't JV in my reasoning is team morale, which is something a coach has to take into account.

Unhappy teams don't play well. Whilst the coach has the responsibility to win he needs to think about big picture stuff and not single players... and he may think this may be the difference between winning and losing...

Perhaps Marco's German is not as good as the coach would like and he believes that this combined with him not knowing his team mates may hamper the team in the short term.

Cunningham didn't start straight away for us... what was Ernie thinking?

Arguebly one of the reasons Ricki had any success was the fact the players played for each other and had a real team ethos, hard for a newbie to add to that straight away.

Man Utd doesn't work for me as a comparison. The players they buy in are world class, something Marco is not.

I think after a year out Marco needs game time at any level.  Would more A-League games prepare him for European football?  I'm not convinced actually

Check the link for some last weekend 2. Bundesliga games. The Greuther Fuerth recording got somehow lost, I will try to record it this weekend, just in case Marco shot a goal ;-)

This is more a test run, to learn the tools, may interesting for you to see the quality of game.

Greuther Furth won 2 - 1, Rojas did not come off the bench. Two young speedy wingers did come off the bench for them however, so presumably he is 5th squad winger/wide forward

Marco not even on the bench as far as I could see - If so, I would have gone along and watched (in Germany, and was only a couple of hours away).

Irrespective, it is a competitive & quality league. We shouldn't be impatient (at least for 1st half if season) as player development takes time. And playing at this level (rather than a-League), significant development is possible.

Chill pill time.

He was on the bench. I guess Fuerth is playing better than Stuttgart at the moment. VFB are last at the bottom of the ladder after loosing 2:0 at home. Fans are freaking out, giving the club a hard time with open letter, criticizing the management.

vfb going down, like Liverpool going to the championship - hard to imagine but utterly possible the way they are playing. If vfb II got promoted from bundesliga 3. that would be a very strange turn of events....

I thought that the second team in the Bundesliga could not go above the third level?

you must be right - I've never seen a second team go higher but must be a bit weird if they top the league and just sit there year after year

I read recently that Stuttgart have financial problems and Director of Football Bobic was told by the board at the beginning of last season that he had to reduce the wage bill by 50% over two years.

Hence the inability to afford any new name players and moving on any decent ones...

Given the start to the season Greuther made to the season it's no surprise Marco doesn't get to start immediately - near the top of Bundesliga 2 and knocked out a Bundesliga team in the cup too.

A 2-0 win today for Greuther Furth and are now up to 5th in 2 Bundesliga with most teams still to play this weekend. Rojas came on in the 89th minute.

On the other hand, Stuttgart lost 3-2 this morning and are just above the relegation zone.

Marco might have had more playing time by now if he had stayed put at Stuttgart

Eh? Was the first team, albeit a "test match" during the international break. And word used was "encouraging". It's not been easy - Fürth's a decent team.
