Marco Rojas - The retirement of the Kiwi Messi

Can't recall which thread, but someone suggest the MLS for him. That wouldn't be a bad move to be honest. He will be 21/22 and at that age you should be competing for a spot in the first team in Europe. Where as the MLS, you are the same age as the guys they get in from the College system. MLS teams would have more experience in bringing these 'older' youth players into their ranks.

Welcome to the forums Craig Foster.

I'm talking about the championship. Not the EPL. Certain clubs in the EPL would suit him well. Liverpool being one of them. I'd like to see him at Swansea if he was going to play in England though.

Says would love to see Rojas in England. Names club from Wales as desired destination. You win at irony.

Really gets annoying how Bozza keeps calling him Marcos. Even that web page calls him Marcos.

You need the Windows Media Player plugin for it to work, I can't get them to work on my work machine either.

Whilst I do watch other A league games occasionally, the victory/Sydney game is a must see if there really are Liverpool and juventus scouts watching Marco.

Aleague & Fox Sports conspire against Marco taking a goal off him and ignoring his efforts tonight (under some pressure with the Europe scout reports) by denying him Alex Tobin points. Can't let him get too far ahead can they?

Goal against Newcastle made top 6 in the world of the month but confusion over which one of the two were better

Pretty sure he scored both, 1st one was definitely on target. The boy ran all night, poor old Grant and Fabio must be tired as!

His first was given as an own goal, an utterly ridiculous decision in my opinion. He fired a shot on goal which deflected and sent the keeper the wrong way. I'm at a loss as to how it is possible to determine that his shot wasn't on target before the deflection.

Unfortunately this has become something of a trend in the last few years.

Looks like Liverpool is going to sign a midget who dribbles well in the form of Coutinho from Inter so I doubt they'll be bothered in persuing Rojas.

i thought it a bit harsh on the defender to call that an own goal

They also came out saying, they were only at the game to check things out for a possible friendly game.

From the Melbourne Age, high praise from Ange

"Melbourne Victory coach Ange Postecoglou says any question marks about Marco Rojas' ability to strut a bigger stage were answered on Saturday night with his five-star performance in torching Sydney FC.

Rojas scored one goal, did everything but get the scoresheet credit for another and stood up big-time in a big occasion match at AAMI Park to help his A-League side to a 3-1 win.

With a contingent from English Premier League club Liverpool at the match to discuss a potential off-season game in Australia, as well as scouts from Italian giants Juventus, Rojas turned on his sensational best.

Postecoglou believes how the A-League's hottest property handled the pressure shows he has the right people guiding his career.

And importantly, his coach believes he has developed the mental fortitude as well as the on-field ability to excel when he inevitably moves to Europe.

"There's obviously a lot of pressure on him, but I think he's got a pretty good network around him because, when you talk to him, he's not fazed by anything," Postecoglou said.

"That was a pretty big challenge for him with all the focus on him, and apparently there's a couple of thousand scouts out watching him.

"The fact he could perform like that shows if there were any question marks about him stepping up to a bigger stage, I think he answered them."

On Saturday night, Melbourne's Italian community turned out on mass for the Del Piero Road Show. Astutely, the Victory ''leveraged'' the visiting star, drawing a big crowd of businessmen and civic leaders. Indeed, the beautifully cut suits worn to the chairman's function were worth as much as some of the players.

Among those drawn by the chance to see the great Del Piero were some self-confessed ''Euro-snobs''. Those who turn up their nose at the local product because it does not compare favourably, in their eyes, with best played elsewhere. But even the most ardent Serie A fan would have left AAMI Park entertained by the match and engaged by the electric atmosphere. The A-League needs them to return, preferably with the corporate dollars desperately needed by a now vibrant, but still financially precarious league.

Del Piero performed admirably in a losing cause. But, with matches televised live in Italy, the greatest beneficiary was Melbourne's young star Marco Rojas. The Kiwi Messi, as he has become known, was responsible for an own goal deflected into the net, and scored another. The roar would have almost drowned out the banshee wails of Victoria Azarenka, who was warming up for the Australian Open final across the road.

So add another zero to the contract he will most likely sign with a European club at the end of the season. And continue to curse the sporting gods that the A-League's most exciting talent was born in Hamilton, New Zealand. Not the Hamilton in Victoria.

Surely that offer to sign to a German club but stay in the A-League on loan for one more season would be the way to go

Yeah, it worked really well for all parties when Amini did it. Dortmund had him locked in, CCM had time to find a replacement for him and Amini had time to develop his skills further with no worries about his future.

I remember him being quite good for the first half of the season, then got injured and Rogic stepped up to take his spot and he couldn't win it back. My memory could be failing me though.

yeah he was good - but wasnt as good as the previous year which earned him the move.
Also  Arnold tried to squeeze both Amini & Rogic into the same lineup which just didnt seem to work

He came back from a youth World Cup broken, Arnold had to nurse him back into things.

05:45 GMT: According to reports in the German media, Bundesliga side Nurnberg could sign Melbourne Victorymidfielder Marco Rojas today. Rojas could be loaned back to the Australian side until the end of the 2013/14 season. The New Zealand international also attracted interest from Liverpool and Juventus.

Hasn't been good enough lately. Drifts out of games far too easily - needs a lot of work before going overseas imo.

I wonder how much freedom he does have to move around. Against WSW they kept their fullbacks deep so he didn't have much space to attack, which has been MVs main attacking outlet. I know Spurs have given Bale a bit more licence to roam the pitch to find space after teams were setting up to close him down, maybe something Ange should be thinking about or happy to commit opposition players to mark Marco.

He is really is missing Tardchie. Nabbout & Pain are much less of a threat, and they don't seem to swap sides of the fields as much.

Because players don't go through slow periods... these comments are always annoying as hell to me. Even the greatest players are poor at times, it happens, form goes up form goes down.

Looking at wingers in the Prem for example, name me one that has played consistantly week in week out this year other than Bale.

I'm sorry, but if you aren't consistently good in the A-League then it's very doubtful you'll do it overseas at a decent club where the standards are far higher. What makes a good player great is when his ratio of bad to good games is skewed heavily in favour of 'good'.

Rojas has a problem where he seemingly can't play to a high standard at Melbourne without Archie guiding him - huge issue, in my opinion, if he wants to make it at a higher level.

Agree to disagree.

He looked average last night, not so much because of his own play but that of his team. Their passing and movement was woeful.
