If he does this to the Phoenix he obviously does not care about playing for NZ - he can bugger off to Chile for all I care. Therk2011-02-27 14:50:06

Basically, we just got dumped.  I think this calls for watching chick flicks in our pjs, eating a whole tub of icecream, and, alternating between crying about how wonderful he was and complaining that all men are bastards.

Im sure he could have been accomodated as an attacking mid if that was really the issue....Judas 2.  I doubt if he will develop at MV more than here..assuming there is a here next year which may have been a driver.  However with the season so far away if he has  made a decision then it was  a hasty one and seemingly driven by money.  He's good but not that good yet...

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

grow up. there are numerous positives here IF he is in fact moving

1. another young promising kiwi is out there playing professional football
2. more youth spots open at the Nix for other young kiwis... someone like Lovemore
3. In 4 seasons we've produced two of the best young players in the League
4. we didnt need Marco to finish 3rd last season... why will we need him next season?

either way Im just happy theres another classy kiwi making headlines and playing stunning footy

Cause the Roar have Ange Postecoglou, and MV have Ernie Merrick.

Why stop there. Just pack a baseball bat or crowbar and deal to the backstabber yourself.

+1 - let's be mature and not cut our nose off to spite our face. Just because he (or his dad) thinks it's better for his career to go to Melbourne does not mean he "obviously does not care about playing for NZ." What a ridiculous leap of the imagination. Club and country are different things.

Ricki needs to call him up for the AWs in one of the upcoming friendlies to make sure he doesn't get nabbed by Chile.

Good luck to him.   I do hope he chooses to play for NZ rather than Chile.  The Phoenix will be alright.

Question: in a conventional league we'd get a fee for him leaving on a Bosman - he's only 19 and has turned down an improved contract offer. However, I seem to recall that A-League rules prohibit member clubs selling players to each other. Do we get transfer money from the Victory?

That sucks. Youth players should be protected from being poached if there's no cost.

How do you know this will still be the situation next season?

The best Footballers NZ can produce will never stay at the Nix, its just a shame that Melbourne will get the cash when he goes to Europe instead of the Nix.

Also with Ward of contract surely thier is a CM/AM role open for him?

I'm really disappointed to be honest. If I thought it was at all a good move for him I'd be fully supportive, but I just don't see how this benefits his game. If anything, being away from friends, family and really supportive fans could be detrimental, but I guess we'll see.

Marco, I'm gutted bro, just gutted.
