Jamie McMaster and Stewart Petrie have not had their contracts renewed - could be decent signings for us.

Salary cap issues apparently - I was reasonably impressed by McMaster last season and Petrie is a goalscorer.

I think they both have the qualities to be decent signings, if we get in before other A-League clubs

Yeah McMaster is Australian so wouldnt count as an international signing. Take him Ricki boy.

I read somewhere that Petrie is heading home as his work permit expired in Aus.  He's pretty damn old.  Do we think he has another year in him ?

McMaster ?  for an attacking player the Mariners scored f**k all goals last season.

One teams goals dont fall down to 1 player. Looking at the people around him, I aint that suprised

By the same token you can look at Kwasnik and say the only reason he didn't score was because he was lumbered with McMaster - (or because he was out of position and Mrdja was perpetually injured)...

For me, McMaster no...  if you want a released Mariner then O'Sullivan would be the best of the names I've seen.

"If the Mariners don't want them, do we ?"

Their apparent reason was "salary cap constraints", so they aren't necessarily bad players.

I was very suprised that that they released Petrie, he was very popular with the fans. I'd definitely sign him. He was in the grand final starting line up from 2006, so he must be pretty good. He's not that old.

McMaster and O'Sullivan could be OK, but I'm not really sure about them.

Petrie turned 37 in February... I'm sorry but that is pretty damn old for a professional footballer.  He is still good, but he is also most definitely old. Hard News2007-04-19 23:05:43

i'd call him a relic at that age, not many last that long in the top flight

And I can confirm that's bollocks. McMaster's a pisshead who asked for a (vastly undeserved) payrise and Petrie is about to turn 38 and would take up a foreign place on the roster.

We dont need 38 yr olds taking up the foreign spots.

Kwasnik is terrible the only way he scores is the penalties he gets, and maybe a few tap-ins he is not a good player.

I'd disagree. He got 7 goals last season, top scorer for the Mariners, not all that many were penalties, and he is the sort of player who knows how to get in the right position for a tap in, not too many are.

Just watch, next season he'll get 10 goals plus if the Mariners don't get many injuries.
