Below is a copy of an article  from our local rag the Central Coast Express.

It has the potential to set us up for years maybe Nix's could do the same.

Remember our plan is to build the Central Coast into the "CENTER OF FOOTBALL EXCELLENT IN AUSTRALIA"

With federal government assisting the funding for the development of our national youth sides and our own efforts our plan is to have the Mariners squad to be mainly locally based, already we have 10 players in the squad who are Coastie bred, and as the A-league expands we will have heaps of juniors to call upon.

Anyway enough of me to the article .....................................

Mariners plan major complex

13Dec07

THE Central Coast Mariners want to build a multimillion-dollar soccer complex in Wyong shire.

Preliminary discussions have been held with council staff and several possible sites identified.

The complex would include about 10 fields, accommodation, a clubhouse and administration and conference facilities.

It would mainly be used for training with competition games still played at Gosford's Bluetongue Stadium.

Wyong councillor Brenton Pavier disclosed details of the preliminary talks at Wednesday night's council meeting. He said he had attended a private briefing session with the council's planning staff and Mariners deputy chairman Peter Turnbull.

He successfully moved that the council organise urgent talks with Mariners representatives with a view to moving the proposal forward as quickly as possible.

Cr Pavier said: ``Imagine the boost this would give Wyong shire.

``The Mariners have already helped lift the region's profile and if it comes off what a magnificent asset this complex would be for the shire.''

The council voted on Wednesday night to continue its joint sponsorship arrangement with the Mariners by providing a grant of $105,000.

The money will be allocated from the council's 2007/08 economic development project.

General manager Kerry Yates said this was more than just a sponsorship of a sporting team.

``The joint sponsorship of the Mariners has been designed as an avenue to bring new businesses to the Central Coast,'' he said.

Yes they will, Wyong council will provide the land at a very reasonable cost, state and federal governments will throw in some cash for junior and womens football. As an aside the new government has allocated prior 32 million to the development of football.

One of our major sponsors will build some of the buildings, as they have agreed to fund major junior development on the coast.

Some State government funded complexes will be moved from existing locations to Wyong. Our largest investor is a property developer and he will build the commercial buildings.

Also Gosford council, (we have two councils that make up the central coast), want to assist in the clubs development

Finally we have one asset very few other clubs have and that is we are a "seat that is held by all winning governments at state level" and only a handful of votes at federal level.  Plus local councils elections are always close.

Even if it does not happen, the mere fact that local, state & federal, government, and local businesses are talking about us in such terms is so different to when we started.

I think the mariners are more than capable of doing it, especially with the wealthy backers they now have on board. And if they do, look out Sydney because NSW football power will always follow the most professional setup and the mariners are miles ahead of the bling at this stage.

Anywat to the post............

yeah, the envy should kick in elsewhere because this is the sh*t all clubs ought to be doing.
yep. it's very positive really, while this isn't really past drawing boards and feasibility studies, it's putting a downpayment on the future.

10 practice fields! accommodation!

that's a setup for pretty lucrative clinic coaching, as well as support for the CC state league team(/s) and local junior elite pathways.

if you think there are too many players being talked about as coaches, this is where they should be going to while they're working through the coaching pathways up to an AFC A licence. if we can invest (this is different to just spending!) in infrastructure and personnel to develop the game, we can build a cradle to grave football club where players from anywhere - whether they be from the central coast, sydney, WA or frickin tahiti... people from all over the world send their resumes and dvds to the Arsenal and Ajax schools. we can't do that, but we can be the pinnacle of the country and oceania's youth development.

it can also be a major part of the national coach education system, after all there's no point having a technical director if we don't have a major coach education program to get the technical and tactical education out there and make 'the australian system' (whatever that turns out to be and wherever it evolves to) standard practice from park football to the socceroos.

huge stuff, and this is the stuff that turnbull was talking about when he invested in the club.

he's here for a long time, and with plans like this, so are the mariners

The new Yellow Fever training centre is almost finished. It's half finished already, and so far is well on track to become a center for football excellence. It's called "Four Kings"

Awesome news, hopefully it will help boost the sport in the region and in Australia. Especially if it leads to your lot dominating over Spewcastle!

Amazing the difference between Oz and NZ regarding financial help.
Sounds like the Mariners are getting heaps of financial aid to set up their new football complex from the local council, plus State and Federal grants.

We've got a Govt who refuse to help out NZF after they took a big financial hit for no fault of their own(Fiji world cup fiasco).

The Wellington City council helped out on the Beckham weekend and got absolutely sl*gged off.

This is one reason why Australia is so good at sport and we struggle....they get supoorted properly.

Ronaldunno you nailed it, you need the support of a number of groups outside the A-League club structure to make a real go at it.

Each team needs to work on there own marketing strengths, but the catch phase of the last couple of years to regional Australia has been to "THINK GLOBAL ACT LOCAL"

The Mariners have (not without a huge effort by many people and perhaps 1, 000 's of hour's of work) managed to get support from government bodies, local business, chamber of commerce etc.

The Mariners sold the idea to the local community that thought the A-league team, the central coast would get promoted in Australia & NZ, also if we made the champions league across Asia in general. The training fields and coaching set up discussed is part of a long process of getting the community behind our team, and making the clubs goals and aspirations part of the communitys goals and aspirations.

Essentially take the most international game and make the connections between, the international appeal and local interests.

However Ronaldunno it takes many, hours of work, but a part yellow fever could play is simply keep ringing up talk back shows, sports shows and talk about Nixs and say if you guys go to the pan Asian gig next year you will get exposure in US .. much more than the All Blacks etc.

Also thanks for the positive comments from YF, but I have come to expect that from you guys.
