The Central Coast Mariners have received a boost with the addition of Qantas Socceroo defender Alvin Ceccoli to their line-up for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League season.

Ceccoli has agreed to terms with the club but will only play in the Mariners upcoming clash against the Perth Glory on Sunday if an International Transfer Certificate is sent in time from the Japanese Football Association.

The 33-year-old, who recently completed a season with Avispa in Japan's second tier J. League 2, will fill the defensive hole left vacant by Mariners injured left back Dean Heffernan.

Prior to playing in Japan, Ceccoli was part of the Sydney FC side which took out the inaugural Hyundai A-League Premiership in 2006/07.

The defender was also part of the Qantas Socceroos recent qualification campaign for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup and during the 1990s he represented the Wollongong Wolves and Parramatta Power in the National Soccer League (NSL).

Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman said Ceccoli would be a valuable asset for the team's upcoming finals campaign.

"Alvins recruitment for the remainder of this campaign is a sure fire statement of how serious we are about success in season three," he said.

"We remain committed to getting Dean (Heffernan) back on the park as soon as possible, however, in the meantime, we are also very committed to seriously challenging for silverware this season and see Alvins signature as a very positive step in regards to this."

"I have no doubt that he will contribute significantly to our already impressive line up which is most capable of claiming both the Hyundai A-League Premiership and Championship."
