Mariners 1 Perth 0

Unconfirmed from a betting website. Bloody hard to find anything on this game.

Yep, it's true. Petrovski scored with about 10 minutes to go. CCM sitting pretty on top, and yet to concede a goal.

i watched bits of the game, from what i saw perth had the slightly better chances. but ccm certainly do look the goods. just an observation of the whole a-league so far and i may well be wrong but does there seem to be an unwillingness on most players parts to pull the trigger from outside the box. i can really only remember the nix doing it once and tht was felipe and tht worked out well. may well be wrong but wud b interested in others impressions

totally agree with u man. The one thing i think thats holding the a-league back as a competition and standard of football is the finishing and shooting displayed, thus so many draws. Teams seem hell bent on practically running it into goal whereas a lot of the time the trigger just needs to be pulled, as i heard a while back, u can either miss, get it saved or score.. its a pretty good ratio

this si something i would like to see more from smeltz, hes barely taken a shot in anger the whole season, would be good to see what he can do letting lose from the edge of the box..

Link for the match report from fox.

A-lLeague link

Went to the match, Perth very good in the fiirst half, Mariners improved in the second half, and unluckly not to score a couple of more goals.

Interesting the Mariners did not play their best midfield players and had two key defenders out as well as one of there strikers.

On balance Perth by far the best of the first half but have no one who can shot to save themselves on the other hand the Mariners have about three or four who all shaot good shots on them. Second half very much the Mariners.

To the couple of posts saying people aren't scoring from outside the box - there was a beauty from Newcastle this weekend and of course Felipe last week. Can't remember many others though.

The reason there are so many draws is because, on average, the defensive qualities of each team nullifies or betters the oppositions strikers. There is a lack of quality in the forward department.

Yeah Petrovski very dangerous in front of goal for CCM. Perth probably a little unlucky not to come away with a point. Completely agree with the lack of shots being put up in the A-League in general- the cause of so many draws and low scoring games? Seems like players are taking one touch too many, holding the ball up when they should be moving forward. Gives the opposition time to get players behind the ball.

Agreed. In saying that, I think the quality of the league stepped up a notch this week. Some great games.

This is brilliant. A Melbourne and a CCM fan slugging it out on the Yellow Fever/Phoenix forum...
