Why does he get a game, he is a terrible keeper, it has been proved for the past 3 seasons!!

Nice wind up thread. Having seen the goals, he couldn't really do anything about any of them, but the 4 defenders could've.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

For a guy who has been injured in the first season and has not get much game time as Moss capitalised as first GK. That is a bit harsh to say since he hasn't actually had that much regular game time even in the knights set up when Danny Milosevic had half the games. 10 games in the last two season is hardly much to scream about.

They tried to resign moss but that didnt happen so... we got paston instead. You can not blame a goalie for crap defending!

but doesn't the keeper organise the back 4 and therefore not have to make saves?

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

Can't blame goalies if the defenders are not listening to him.

Fox Sport FC 'Save of the Week' as someone pointed out in another thread. The experts rate him...

It should first nature for a-league level goalie to organise the back 4  but at this level players should also be able to defend without some one telling them too.

It would be a perfect world for a keeper if he didnt have to make any saves.

Don't think hes going anywhere. He has the quality - he's not Moss, but he had no hope on the weekend. Maybe he'll give us a wave this week

I am not a big fan of paston...but you cant blame him for the goals...sigmund was at fault for a couple...seemed like he got caught out out of position

I'd rather have Paston in goal if there's a penalty. Moss was woeful at them.

Moss wasn't that bad at penalties. I remember him saving a few

As far as I am concerned the penalty area is the domain of the goalie. He is the one who tells his defence what he expects and whether or not he will come for a ball or leave for the defence to clear. I feel that the whole team not just paston need to take assertive lessons and start talking to each other...nay shout if need be. Im not sure that there is a place for passive goalkeepers in the modern game

Which? Can't remember one

Um I know he saved one against Sydney once. I recorded it..

Can't remeber bout the Preseason penalty shootout.

When did Paston save one?

Moss never saved a single penalty for us, he looked like a deer in the headlights most of the time and even when he jumped the right way he never committed enough to stop a shot.

Think these photos show moss saving the penalty against Sydney. 2nd one shows ball on right hand side of goal

Dear Everyone,

It is with Great sadness that I inform you that Glenn Moss has moved away from the club. He did this about 5 months ago.

He is gone and in all likelihood he will never be back.

I therefore ask that you take your hand OUT of your pants and stop w**king on about him.

I trust you will have a good day.

Sincerly,

I agree. I don't think we should be too upset about it anymore. I think that Paston is totally capable and definitely doesn't deserve any of the criticism so far. I was just pointing out above that mossy has a saved atleast 1 penalty lol.

Back on topic..

Paston has the quality to command our goal and its not cool to say he is terrible when he has only had one game.
There's no way we should be dropping him at all.

A debate should be organised with say the Backbencher as the venue. 3 per team - one arguing the strengths of all other 'keepers the Nix have used v Wellingtonphoenixfan and another 2 if they can be found arguing for Paston.

All have to agree that the debate means they can't debate it on here any longer

I think their are other players that should be dropped ahead of Paston judging by Sunday's performance.
Whats with this anti-Paston thing - I can't believe he is bearing the brunt for the team's loss by some.

yeah - i know its the old saying, but it had to get past ten other players before it got to him. We need to address what the mistakes we made were, and prioritize them. And I don't think Paston is up there

I have no problems with paston in fact I only have one player out of the whole starting lineup that makes me nervous as soon as he runs on the pitch and that is brown!!!

You might as well be blaming Moss for letting two in to CCM and losing the game for Melbourne.  At least their defense had less holes.

Our defense was our strength at the end of last season, and we have the same players there.  I don't know what is going wrong but they certainly can defend a lot better than they did against the Jets - if they can get their act together we should be fine.

I thought he could have done better with the second goal - perhaps should have held the shot - the other two weren't his fault.

Yeah but he didn't have much time to get down onto the ball to save it.

I am surprised at the amount of people defending Paston. It is good to see you all changing your minds about him and seeing the quality I have so frequently told you of.

The burning question is: Is WPFs man crush on Paston bigger than mayze's girlie crush on Hearfield.

I say no.

Against Sydney, first season at the RoF.

Paston saved one against Newcastle last season, also at the RoF.

So they're 1-1 in penalty saves for us.

If I may go off topic a bit did anyone else get the idea from Sunday's commentary that Andy Harper has a man crush for Ben Sigmund?

Yip, he wants him bad.  Even said something along the lines of, "I really, really rate (love) Sigmund."

Paston doesn't deserve to be dropped for this game.  Only Tim Brown.  Plus, after seeing a bit of Crowther in China I'd be far more worried if he was between the sticks.  Plus, Paston was brilliant for the Knights.

It's more just because he's the only one we've got and also because it was obvious it was the defences fault'. The only other option is Crowther who was very poor against Guangzhou.

Well I think we have two good goalkeepers on our books, one with some experience and a good one just starting. It's a long term plan that should pay off.

To be fair it doesn't matter how bad Paston plays (i'm not saying he played bad WPF - calm down) he is going to play every game because RH needs him to have match practice for a few important World Cup Qualifying games coming up
