I reckon we get a massive, hard as nails, and fast African player from the South African league.

Marquee Players have to be very amazing before we even put pen to paper. There isn't that many players about that has that reputation. Just because we have can have a Marquee player spot doesn't mean that we have to fill it up.

Over the other seasons, the Marquee players have not really done enough for the other clubs except Dwright Yorke or Junintio/Fred. They come and then go and the club hasn't moved on in development.

I rather use the Marquee spot as a short term strategy ploy and not as a continue use. e.g. a retainer for a well need developed nix player that may be lured away by others in a crucial part of the season or to short term specialist position cover for an injured nix player in a crucial hard to get market or even as short term player to boost the strength of the squad leading into the playoffs.

Otherwise I think we are throwing away money on a miracle which is not going to happen. TBH.

A few points

1, Fred was not a Marquee player.  Archie Thompson was and still is the Tards Marquee.

2, An injury cover player falls outside the cap anyway so a there would be no need to use a marquee spot in that situation.

Brockie wouldn't come close to meeting the marquee requirements, Killen might, but only by the same dodgy standards as Ahmad El**ch and Zura do.

It would be tough to get a player from South Africa as they would get paid quite a bit, Kaizer Chiefs are building a 60,000 seat stadium that resembles Arsenal's Emirates, and this is without much Govt support (i think some local govt support at most) as the stadium is not going to be used for WC2010.
