Marquee Player?

After watching the wednesday final on the telly (i was crook by the way) it seemed that we have a great squad but no consistantly awesome player that can put the goal in the net.

i beleive this would be the perfect time to bring in a good and expensive marquee player.

anyone agree?

agree a marquee would be great but history shows it is very difficult to find a successful marquee - only one i can think of is Dwight Yorke

Yeah that is right, a lot easier said then done because if it was not hard we would have one by now most likely.

How about Jeremy Brockie, fantastic goal for the olywhites, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to prise him from Miramar

U-23 marquee (such as Chris James) would be good too.

What about Killen? Hasn't he pretty much shot himself in the foot with Celtic? He scored a stella goal from a free kick last season against one of the pacific island teams... brumbys2008-08-09 21:56:14

i was thinking that maybe we couldve used the marguee spot for joel porter seeing as how we need a stiker but maybe he's not worth that

Dont see the need for a marquee striker when playing 4-2-3-1 as there is cover for smeltz with coveny-kwasnik and costa at a pinch, more likely to maybe sign brockie if he backs up from the 1st game tonight.
I think ryan would like that

coveny and costa aren't up to the level required if smeltz is injured/suspended, and kwasnik isn't the out and out striker required to lead the 4-2-3-1 formation, we need a true striker able to bang in 8+ goals a season in the aleague

An interesting suggestion and not without merit. Everyone is saying his confidence is returning and that goal was a real cracker. Certainly worth considering unless we're looking for a "Bg name" player looking for a retirement cheque??

i think that would be rather hypocritcal since we mock melbourne for having Archie as thier marquee, unless of course you are being rather subtle(or not) with your sarcasim.

I like Brockie as a player, and I reckon he could be a good addition to our foward line. I'd definitely be stoked if we were to sign him up

What about Denni who was realeased from Newcastle Jets last season?

Would slot in quite well

He was rubbish and struggled to get a start in a squad that included a whale...

...also, we're not exactly short of attacking midfielders.

Unless Ricki can unearth someone from the South American or second tier European leagues I'd say Brockie would be a good signing, clearly the next person we bring in should be a striker, and preferably a pacy, skillful one to compliment Smeltz power and tenacity. Doesn't seem like there's anyone else out there. I'd also try sign Porter next season (provided his injury problems don't continue and he keeps scoring for 'Pools) to replace Covs who is surely in has last year for us.
