I am led to believe that Ifill is wanting to stay here for a long time but is having some troubles working out a fear deal. with talk that fred could becoming as a marquee next year. who would you prefer to see as a marquee player for the years to come?

Iffy - Fred can go to NQ if he wants to be marquee... similar age players (29/30, yes?) but we've seen the difference Ifill makes to the team... to be fair Fred hasn't had the same opportunity but I'd prefer to give Fred a miss if it meant securing Ifill long term, versus not.

I imagine we all would HN. My point was that I don't want to lose Ifill to get Fred.

Focus on keeping Ifill first then go for the luxury signing later imo

I wonder how far (If we are) we are under our salary cap? We might still be able to keep Ifill as a player and be under the cap. Otherwise Marquee him and bring fred in under his normal player place.

Well, we could use the Junior Marquee option and put the u23 player with the highest salary into this category. Could free up $50k-$100k? Which could go on top of Ifill's current contract or towards Fred's and then have one of them as Marquee.

Sack Mulli, and Diego and pay their salaries to Ifil and get Fred as marque. Could also just do the usual dodgy "non-salary" payments like free house, car, fuel, food, bills etc. Basically make any money here is paid by the club free money to spend on what ever he likes. It happens in most salary capped leagues.

Its no longer a problem.

Diego is contracted for next season. If we pay out his contract and let him go it will still count towards next seasons cap. Only if we can convince Diego to leave would it work (similar to how we picked up Caceras), which it could with a new team joining the league.

The issue seems more complicated than just Fred vs Ifill so I'm not going to vote.

it may not matter if fred comes or not, we still have the problem of Ifill wanting to stay but him not getting a fair offer.....

I reckon we fit them both under the cap and sign an amzing wingback ;p

but seriously, Ifill comes first in my book for sure.

Use family politics behind the scenes and if anyone comes in contact with his mrs or daughter, then we gotta make them feel real at home, and maybe sign them up for some groups that they enjoy so they wont want to leave. (worth a shot?)

But maybe if we can get Fred, then give him marquee for remainder of season and then at the end, if he was good enough, then we will have to sort out who gets marquee, otherwise, put him in the cap and bump Ifill up. The old switcheroo. I think if we can replace the likes of Ferrante, Mulligan, Diego (I know hes still contracted) with youth players, then its win win win situation.
1 - we get players who have potential to grow rather than ones who have no excuse for failing
2 - we wont have to go through signing new youth players every year
3 - we wont have to be paying these kids as much as Mullign/Ferrante (i assume) so the extra cash goes to Ifill to keep in the cap. Give costa youth marquee and thats more. Then sign up a Marquee, who may or may not be Fred, because I'm not sure if he is still worth the spot
