being new to the A league scene, any idea when the season fixtures
are announced?
Last season they came out on the 1st May after several million
drafts ;)

so I'm guessing about 8 games at the Stadium - more if Phoenix get sufficient points?
10 or 11 home games per season - if the knights had 10 last season,
id say you guys will have 11 this season. chances are, if they
follow what they did last 2 seasons, you have 2 away and 1 home
game against us.
I thought the fixtures list was already out and Phoenix start with
2 games away then there 1st home game against Sydney.

A draft maybe - last season had several before the finished product, but the official draw is not out yet.
Draws been done. Phoenix have only 3 home games in the first
10
rounds
Pre-season draw also been done.
Check out the A-League website
A dog with a bone :)
Link please, I cant seem to find it on the a-league website, the
only draw thats there is the ACL. Ive also checked the Roar's
website, nothing there.
hi - had also checked out the A league website, but couldn't find
any info about the 2007 season (?maybe looking at the wrong
website?)
There was a Dom Post article just after the Phoenix was
confirmed:
Details of a draft draw obtained yesterday
have the Wellington team playing just three of its first 10
A-League matches at home.
The first of those home games will not be till the third round of the season, though it would be against glamour side and inaugural A-League champions Sydney FC on September 7.
The franchise, owned by Wellington property tycoon Terry Serepisos and to be coached by All Whites coach Ricki Herbert, is set to play its first two A-League matches away.
The season-opener at Suncorp Stadium-based Queensland Roar is on August 26 and five days later the capital franchise will take on current A-League champions Melbourne Victory, who last year attracted crowds of up to 50,000 at the Telstra Dome.
The first home match against Sydney would then be followed by two more away matches, a home match against Perth Glory, three more away matches and the third home match of the season, in round 10, against Melbourne.
The flip side to that, however, is a dream run in the second half of the season, with seven out of their last 10 matches at home, which would bode well should the side pick up enough early season points to be in contention for the playoffs.
The likely Pre-Season Cup draw is much more favourable, however, with the Wellington team set to play its first match away against the Central Coast Mariners on the weekend of July 13-15 before consecutive home matches against Sydney FC on the weekend of July 20-22 and Queensland Roar a week later.
It is understood the team would play Sydney - its first home opponent in both the Pre-Season Cup and A-League - in Wellington, either at the Basin Reserve or Westpac Stadium.
The second match against Queensland Roar could be played at either FMG Stadium in Palmerston North or Park Island in Napier.
The venues for the remaining two Pre-Season Cup matches - the playoff round and finals series - would depend on placings in Group B, with Group A containing the other four sides - Melbourne Victory, 2006-07 A-League finalists Adelaide United, the Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory.

I'd be surprised if that ends up being 100% correct. I'm also
suprised they printed it. I remember last season when the FFA had
an apolexy when the Draw mistakenly got posted up on the a-league
website by the IT guys when they were testing the linking between
all the a-league sites. The Sydney boys managed to get a copy of
the draw and post it up, was posted on ours as well and we were
very nicely asked to take it down.
Yeah... I suspect there was a little explosion at FFA HQ when that
article came out...
It's hard to believe that after all the pain in getting a New
Zealand franchise back in the comp the FFA would be so
short-sighted as to have them play the first two games away.
There's a one-off opportunity to get the Wellington franchise off
to a flyer by letting them build the hype around the first game
being at home. It would seem like Marketing 101 to me and in
everybody's best interests.
A draw like that doesn't make any sense to me, when bringing new clubs into any league it is best to give them a home game to see what crowd you can bring in off the hype of it.
I think that the draw isn't official yet and that was just a draft draw and someone threw up an article about it not realising it wasn't the proper draw.I'd have to agree with a few posts here - if a couple of the first
few games were at home this would surely cement any fandom WP are
going to get. Seems crazy to have only 3 of first 10 at
home.
btw Muzgrob are you ashamed to be a Sydney Fan or is that a typo?

apparently we are playing you in wellington round 1
good luck ;)
Yeah, heard that - about as big as it gets for an opener.

playing against melbourne - you cant get any bigger in the
a-league

I don't know, Beltrame is pretty big...
I don't know, Beltrame is pretty big...
hahahaha

maybe round the waist!
It'd be great if we can get a home game to kcik things off.
Remember there's also the rpeseason comp, which would gives us one
or two home games. It'd be good to get a decent crowd along to them
too, give us a chance to warm up the old vocal chords!
Phoenix wanting a friday night game for the first match was never
going to happen. The Wellington NPC team play at home on
Saturday 25th and they require a longer lenght of grass than
than our lads.
A dog with a bone :)
I think the ideal first round (if the Wellington-Melbourne rumor is
true) would be something like-
(I tried to be realistic with crowd and score
predictions.)
Wellington-Melbourne (gives you guys a big match to promote as
your first game.)
2-2, lots of goals and a decent result to please the great
crowd of 16 000.
Newcastle-Adelaide (Re-match of last year's preliminary final,
only Newcastle at home)
2-1, Newcastle gets revenge and the bumper crowd of 21 000
will all be coming back again.
Perth-Sydney (This season is viewed as the first step back
towards the Glory days of the NSL by some, with new owners,
revamped squad, new stadium?, new sponsors, and a match
against Sydney gives lots of material for promotion of the new
season.)
1-1 The decent crowd of 10 000 sees a free flowing game of
football and claims a good result to put them all in an optimistic
mind for the coming season.
Queensland-Central Coast (its good having at least one of the
big three playing at home in the first round to boost the crowd
numbers, should get a good crowd to see Tiatto (and Moore?)
no matter who they are playing, and the fans will be desperate to
get to the finals this year.)
2-0, the great crowd of 24 000 sees their boys Roar into first
place after round one.
Apparently the draw will be out on Monday, so we'll just have to
wait and see...
But the key word is apparently, you just never know with the
FFA and deadlines lol.

Where did you get that from?
Where did you get that from?
It's exactly the same as last year, are you sure?
If that's correct, still
Newcastle vs Adelaide would be great
and then it would have to be
Perth vs Qld or Qld vs Perth
