Can we start a rating system sticky for the match officials as well? I reckon if we colate them over the course of the season several important and valid trends will appear. Today, the linesman on the Aisle 23 side of the ground was fairly good, the one over by the subs bench was a real plank and the referee wasn't much better. he started well but then lost the plot around the half time mark.

Do you think so? I didn't think the ref was too bad overall. Yeah, he gave out 3 cards in 3 minutes to us but only Lochead's looked a little soft, and I didn't see the replay properly.

And OK, the guy who won their penalty dived into the ground harder than Steve Fossett but it was still a foul. I also thought we had a decent claim for a penalty when Smeltz was tripped by a trailing CCM leg. (Australia copped one for less against Italy at the World Cup).

Didn't think they did much wrong today?

Smeltz's fall wasn't a penalty.

That's pretty much spot on with my thoughts, except I'd personally further stress how good the linesman on out side was and how utterly crap the one on the Greek Fever side was

Don't think the refeeriing was too bad. Softish penalty for CCM, but overall it was OK.

Agreed, Smeltz's fall wasn't a penalty (although I still appealed strongly about it to the TV), but I don't think Dodd fouled the CCM player who got a penalty. If anything we should have got a free kick as that dirty cheating bludger poked Dodd in the eye.

And another comment, there was a linesman who looked like the chap who used to own the Knights (I think the names Anthony Lee), he was downright shocking!

Fair comments everyone but to me I have seen only 2 refs whom have done really well, some of the linos have been good and some shouldn't be wearing that Australian Canary Gold/Yellow shirt at all.

Australia's sporting yellow (Wattle Gold) when done properly is the most beautiful shade of yellow you can get...the linesmen and refs in the A-League wear a colour closer to the heinous traffic cop fluoro that Chelski wear on their away kit (Disclaimer - spoken by an Australian with a fondness for Fulham FC )

Hey guys..

its all too easy to blame the refs.....and the linos...

the ref did not underhit the backpass for their second or constantly ran offside.. Smeltzy is always offside, he needs to work on the time of his runs....

we have just got to hold our hands up and say they are crap!! they are no better at the Premiership level or world cups....

but would you do that job???

Not just smeltzs fault tho, maybe some of of those with the ball need to be getting it away quicker instead of taking that extra step or another look.

Good point, some of our players seem to wait interminably before laying off the simplest of passes. This is a very bad idea, especially when attacking. Speaking as a defender, the most difficult thing to deal with is quick ball transition by the opposition when on attack. That's when defensive co-ordination goes out the window and gaps and unmarked opposition players start appearing. We don't really tend to do this when on the attack, our build-up tends to be frustratingly slow at times.
