Apologies again OOE

Paston - 9 - Could do nothing for the goal, everything else he's fabulous and he's so much more assured in the air than Moss. I know its only 1 game, but I'd start him next week.
Muscat - 8 - Very decent, he doesn't offers the spectacular and certainly isn't the best player in the team, but he sure is better than Hoof ball Mulligan.
Sigmund - 10 - STAR PLAYER - Wins everything. Been saying start him all year, absolutely fabulous. SIGGY SIGGY SIGGY, OI OI OI!
Dodd - 8 - Certainly a lot better at CB, was maybe at fault for their goal, but uses his physical presence really well.
Lochhead - 8 - Some dodgy moments, but the Lochy of old sprinting down the wing, great cross for our first goal
Gao - 8 - First half fabulous, was creating everything, faded in the 2nd
Brown - 8 - Competing in midfield. Getting to the ball first, retaining possession. Isn't exactly the speed demon, but he doesn't need to be, and what a goal.
Johnson - 8 - Was gonna give him 7, apart from his work in the last 10 he was everywhere. Captain fantastic
Kwasnik - 9 - I take back everything I said about Kwasnik as a striker, as a winger, he was fantastic today. He's no striker for me though. Pace, first touch, good balls.
Smeltz - 8 - Beating men, great goal. Same old smeltzy...
Covs - 8 - Chasing everything down, good man to have on the pitch, albeit for 60-70

Subs:
Christie - 7 - Some good touches, even outsprinting someone!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!
Ferrante - 7 - Nothing really to note but none of the play staff is  getting below 7 today

Herbert - 5 - My only complaint today, again the weird substitutions. We are 1-1 at home, and we take off Covs (OK, hes old, running out of steam ect..) but hes a striker, and bring on Plodder...We take off Gao (creative, fast..) bring on Ferrante. Thats not subs that are indicating pushing forward, and I think we lacked in the attacking department from there on in. The goal came out of nowhere recently, but well done Brown. Was Daniel on the bench? Why not him for Gao?

I have to rate Herbert much higher at least a 7

for selecting the original team. Kwasnik was cheated by that offside, and I would have had money on him to score from there. I think he will be away once he gets that first competition goal!

and I thought the subs were good. Cos it worked. Controlled the midfield, and Brown found his striking boots, and we might have had another from Kwasnik. Did Johnson play that well? He's harder to spot than Dodd!

We didn't miss Daniel I have to say, though you may hate me for it. No nostalgia, no playing on reputations.

Did you decide those numbers in a euphoric moment? You may as well have given them all 10s to show your heart vs head there. You forget that we were dominated for the 1st 20 mins.

I think the longer the game went on, the better we got because Sydney lost their composure and allowed us to play and we gained confidence from that. After all, they had it all over us in the first 20 and we did diddly squat but defend.

We played well in the latter half and this lot should be given a chance to show their wares again next week.  I think you will see the return of Durante at RB as he is the captain....

Sure, we controlled the midfield. But in the period between them coming on and us scoring, did we look like scoring? No. It worked well when defending that lead, but I had suspicions we were trying to defend the 1-1 scoreline.

And Herbert's hand was slightly forced by absences.

so is it match ratings vs Bling or match ratings vs last week?

I'm all happy with the win but perspective needs to be kept as well. If the nix go to training tomorrow thinking 'we were the sh*t' they'll get blown away next week.

It was a good our best effort this year and hopefully we will improve on that next week.

No just on the same scale that we have been judging them on all year- today they passed, tackled, ran at players and scored goals. Doesn't this justify the rankings? Feel free to put your own ones down

Agreed. Not convincd we were the best team, but to play with heart and a bit of blood and guts spilt was fantastic. Good on the re-arranged backline. Dodd, Sigmund, Muscat and Paston dug deep. I'm not sure Brown knew where the goal was afetr his knock, but well take it!

Everyone played pretty well. I was surprised that Christie got on instead of Daniel (assuming Daniel was on the bench), but other than that there wasn't much Herbert should have done differently. Brave move to start that line-up but it paid off!

Still not sure about Coveny starting, but can't fault him for effort. We don't seem to have too many other options to partner Smeltz up front either.

Yeah, I was entirely confused as to why Herbert made those choices. He may of thought a draw was a good enough result, which is NOT the right attitude. I was expecting Daniel for Cov's with Kwasnik up front.

Yeh- Moss vs. Paston.

Paston controls his box and looks so assured on crosses. Just need the defence to stop the shooting opportunities!

I think there is some kind of Mutiny happening. The Aussie contingent of Durante, Mckain and Hearfield were nowhere to be seen, not even on the bench! How could you not have players of Mckain and Durante`s ability ousted from the squad and what about Moss. There is something going on here.

I personally thought we wernt going to do it when I saw who was playing at the start.
Every player showed improvement on the pitch as well as confidence. Every one for me got good ratings only low points was when we were passing to much in the box. JUST SHOOT.(the tactic payed off and we pulled through well done)

Paston - 7 - Did what he had to do, but PERHAPS could have done more with the goal, seemed to go up a bit early. Moss should return next week.

Muscat - 8 - Gave me confidence over on the right side.

Sigmund - 10 - STAR PLAYER - Barely put a foot wrong.

Dodd - 8 - Got better and better

Lochhead - 7 - Showed some promising runs forward, still could deliver more and better into the box.

Gao - 7 - Looked confident on the ball, looked dangerous around the box on occasions.

Brown - 8 - Won lots of ball, scored a great goal

Johnson - 6 . Did lots of work, won quite a lot of ball but his distribution was often poor

Kwasnik - 7 -Showed some nice touches

Smeltz - 9  Fantastic goal, so we can almost forget that he made quite a few passing errors that he really shouldnt have done.

Covs - 8 - More effective than his last game, contributed well to a few moves

Herbert - 8 -  The subs were geared to consolidate the draw rather than go for a win, which was perhaps neagtive considering Sydney had lost it. Daneil would no doubt have been given the last 7 minutes if Brown hadnt of scored.

BUT hey, what a great result. Totally unexpected at the start, and after half and hour. But it was the way they were knocking it around late on that pleased me, giving Sydney the complete runaround

From my couch and a few hundred miles from Welly I saw the game as follows:

Overall - 8 - don't forget we were chasing shadows in the first 30 mins, we were lucky not to be 2-0 after 30 mins...BUT the tenacity and application shown thereafter was superb... a real team effort, nothing was left on the park (apart from some of Tim Brown's tomato juice)
Paston- 8 - solid- confident in the air
Muscat - 7 - got forward and found players feet
Sigmund - 8 - surprised at how well he did after barely playing all season (confident, gutsy).. not much going forward but not much getting past him
Dodd - 9 - apart from a shocking haircut (would have got 9.5 otherwise).. easily his best game in Nix shirt... read the play superbly and marked tight..
Locky... 7.. still fragile on defence and commits to tackle too early but nice touches going forward
Kwansnick.. 7.. I'm not so sure he was as good as some are saying... I think people are judging him on what he did at end when he had heaps of space due to Bling pushing men forward.. still.. worth a start next week
Brown.. classic, just what was required.. looked timid going forward in first half, but ran the show in the 2nd
Jonno... positionally was great (the problem with Ferrante)... nothing special..he is the R Thorne of the nix for me..
Gao...9... I was one who thought he had no ticker and was all about the tricks but was happily surprised when he started demanding the ball after Bling scored.. for me the catalyst to the comeback
Smeltz..8 - great goal, superb last 20... sometimes he is guilty of keeping his head down and missing chances but still a must to re-sign!!
Covs - 6 - is a good target man for long ball and will run his bollcks off but we miss a genuine partner for SS

RH - I was confused by his subs given we were 1-1 at home with everything to play for.. I don't think he got it right (scoreboard shows me wrong but that aside Christie not ideal sub for Gao)

Bring on Jets without Joel Griffiths!!

Paston 8 - A couple of quality saves, controlled the area well, good at the high ball
Muscat 7 -  A few shaky moments, but good to see some sensible short balls coming out of right back
Siggy 8 - Stepped up and showed he is A-league quality. Brilliant last 10 minutes
Dodd 8 - As with Siggy. Showed he is at his best at centre back.
Locky 7.5 - Getting closer to last season's form, nice cross for the first goal
Kwasnik 7 - Quiet in the first half, came into his own in the second half. Unfortunate booking, looked like he genuinely didn't hear the whistle to me
Brown 9 - I had voted for Siggy as MoM, in retrospect Brown put in the guttsiest performance I have seen in a 'Nix shirt. Controlled the midfield. Goal looked a bit scrappy at the game, looking at replays, he picked his spot and hit it well.
Jonno 7 - Unrecognisable from the last few performances. Not spectacular, but that's not his job.
Gao 7.5 - Lifted the team after Sydney's goal with some classy runs. Quiet in 2nd half, good call to bring him off
Smeltz 8 - Good finish for his goal. Ran tirelessly, put the opposition keeper under pressure at times. Offer him whatever it takes to keep him
Covs 6.5 - Industrious. Looks risky in 50/50 challenges, though his card was harsh. Still not convinced we're at our most creative partnering him with Smeltz

Ferrante 7 - Did what was required when he came on
Christie 7.5 - Worked hard, chased the ball, some nice touches in the attacking third.

Ricki 7.5 - Resisted the temptation to bring Daniel on when we were one up, wins extra marks for that.

Good win, lets not get excited though, Sydney were having a bit of a training run it looked like, looked a bit lethargic. Hopefully next week we play alot better.

Paston - 8 - He dominated the box, was solid in the air and organised the defence very well, unlike Mossy he wasn't sent into all those spectacular saves, who are we gonna start next week??

Muscat - 8.5 - At times when he was getting forward I thought he was bertos (skin tone, lack of hair etc.) but of course super Leo wasn't playing and it was simply a matter of Manny getting forward incredibly well to fill the right flank. Because of this go-forward attitude I expected Bling to be all down that side but no, he also got back time and time again to defend solidly.

Siggy - 8.5 - Solid all game and defended with his head and his heart beutifly, kept us strong in the final 15.

Dodd - 8.5 - "Who let the Dodd Out" sounded great and he was superb, solid just like Siggy, brought the ball out of defence well and played some great passes.

Lochhead - 8 - Nearly back to the form that had him as one of my favourite players last year, classy going forward, some nice crosses and he got back well do defend. Maybe he should lose half a point for not helping us out when he jogged past during our game against the Cove.

Brown - 9 - Showed why I've been saying he should start ever since he returned from injury, tackled and fought well in midfield, some nice passes, didn't get carded, and scored a great goal after coming on Terry Butcher style. Should have been captain methinks.

Johnson - 6.5 - Still not happy with him starting ahead of Ferrante, his positioning and distribution is not as good as it once was, he should also learn the speech before stumbling through the attributes of fair play.

Gao - 8 - Showed some real class with  his runs, but wasn't given an awful lot of support at times. He was the inspiration that turned it around for us, and he doesn't even speak the language. Very well done Leilei.

Kwasnik - 7.5 - Was good getting forward, beating players and crossing, he was roobbed of a goal but played well throughout. Play him wide, and he'll play well.

Smeltz - 8.5 - Another game, another goal. He also ran harder than I've ever seen before.

Coveny - 6.5 - Not much to say really, I barey noticed him, but he didn't do anyhting wrong either.

Subs
Ferrante - 7 - Maybe not the best option when we had Daniel on the Bench, but he did better then Johnson or the man he replaced - Coveny.

Plodder - 7.5 - Ran hard and looked hungry. He seems very desperate to get back in the staring lineup.

Ricki Herbert
Dealt well with all the absences, but once again some whacky substiutions - an 8 from me.

Yeah WTF were those speeches about? We expect footballers to speak now? it seemed totally pointless, and even the players seem to be amused by it.

Worse than asking boxers for a coherent explanation of their performance.
