The news is that Perth are looking to off-load their striker Mate Dragicevic.  Dragicevic is a solid and proven striker with top flight experience in Croatia and Russia.  He has been struggling at Perth but the service to him from the back and midfield has been terrible.  He could be a valuable guest player acquisition for the Phoenix given Ricki likes to play an attacking game, and would be an invaluable support for Shane Smeltz whose often left up front on his own.  Could come fairly cheaply given Perth are looking to off load him during the transfer window.

We don't want him. We have a good squad. All this transfer talk is poos.

I hear your views.  I can't believe a good player with European football experience is suddenly bad overnight.  Perth were raving about him during their pre-season tour to Asia and the player scored several goals for them on tour.  Could it be that Perth simply isn't able to utilise him well as a centre forward, and maybe Ricki could get value out of him?  Admittedly he was right out of the game against Perth at the Ring of Fire (and was subbed late in the game), but he hardly got the ball.  My view is that Shane is often left on his own up front and he might get better support from a solid centre forward playing alongside him.  Anyhow, to change subjects, has anybody heard any news about what's happening in the transfer window?  What are the likely player movements?

Mario Jardel was "suddenly" bad. Must have been the pies.

And considering that there are only 8 clubs, and seem fairly happen with their squads (in general) the only players I can see leaving are the useless imports. Like Jardel and Dragicevic.

Looking to sure up at the back...then we will be in business. We can score goals. Smeltz is at the right place at the right time, Daniel and Elrich are always threats, and Felipe too.

So sorry Mate

Why would the second top scorers in the league need another striker? I think everybody knows where our problems are, and they aren't up front.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Is this a joke?

Is your next suggestion to sign Zdrillic? Maybe we should get Darren bazeley, or Milosovic..

I'm going to watch Team Welly beating Waitakere today. Doesn't Bazeley play for Waitakere? I'll let you know how he goes. If you want I can sound him out about moving to Wellington

Yeah I might go aswell. He does play for Waitak, aswell as coach US1.

Watch out for his classic move, dribble a bit down the line before a classic Bazza lob. Its magical.

Flag a guest player. The team is going great, apart from the odd lapse at the back that has been costing us games. And I honestly cant see a guest player fixing that problem, seen as most guest players are attacking players. The only guest players I think I would be happy to see would be high profile Kiwis Like Simon Elliot coming back from injury, maybe a loan deal?? Or Chris James. Dragicevic doesn't have the pedigree of players like that plus he is foreigner...lets stick with the Kiwi buzz.

I'm all behind Ricki and the squad regardless of where they finish in the league - they've done amazingly well in a real short space of time.  Will support them to the end.  But maybe an extra resource at the crunch end of the season wouldn't go amiss.  Simon Elliot's definitely out, first, because he's contracted to Fulham and, secondly, he's out for the rest of the season because of injury.  But, Chris James is a free agent as I understand it.

would kill our game, simple, i think the power we have in midfield more than justifys us having 5 midfielders on a semi-permanent basis not counting circumstances such as injuries.

we play well with the 5 mid 1 striker combo, smeltz has done his job superbly and we have a powerhouse attacking midfield, why the hell do u want to partner another stiker when we have enough attacking power, not to mention dragece-whatever sucks

Don't know about playing 5 midfielders every week - agree with that strategy when we play away from home, but not at home. Smeltz can get isolated on his own up front, so I think he needs support in games we're looking to dominate and win. I like the idea of Felipe coming in in the last third of the game, that's when he can cause the most damage, so I'd have him on the bench and probably start Covs with Smeltz.
