I love that football's day in the sun is over after we only get 25,000 to a semi final, yet no less than a few months ago Rugby got 12,000 to its show piece.

Well done Michael.

Hey guys. Don't worry about Lawsy he just makes these random comments to get publicity for his talk show. I get the same thing at work as well "oh well they won't win the next game" it's really frustrating that the majority of the NZ public (who probably will only support rugby or cricket if we're doing well) are so pesimistic. That's one of the fantastic things of being a phoenix supporter, we are real supporters, not just supporters when we're winning. Michael Laws doesn't frustrate me, he doesn't make me hate him etc, he just makes me want to get out there and support my team even more. Peace

Wouldn't be funny to see him with his shirt off with 10 to go, tho'

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Anyone noticed how he insists on calling it soccer? Professes to love rugby, but it smacks of political expediency. Should have been charged for treason , making that call in the afterglow of our great victory,  the  CNUT.

If he sat in the Fever Zone, he'd rock up to the studio on Monday morning and go on about how boring the crowd was.

If Laws was ever in the Zone he'd get kicked out for trying to start a racist chant

He wouldn't go., as he'd assume Yellow Fever was some sort of Asian thing.

Mayor Michael can't be that opposed to supporting May Flies
"Last week the Council held a civic send-off for the team [Wanganui] before the semi-final against Mid Canterbury. Hoardings supporting the team have been put up around the city and extensive advertising has been undertaken."

From http://www.wanganui.govt.nz/news/showNews.asp?id=749

It's not as if our rugby team has a hard road to winning the Meads Cup each year... world class competition like Wairarapa Bush and Mid-Canterbury (no offence guys).

But I guess it's ok to hold a civic ceremony for your local rugby team, but rubbish you national football team for bringing a bit of pride to this countries sporting abilities as a whole.

BTW, i do love and support more local rugby team too, just think it's a bit hipocritical really.

i agree with what you say 100%.

but my close friends and acquaintances' views regarding the Phoenix have improved over last couple of years. i still remember when a friend said to me that i was wasting my time and money by supporting the Phoenix as they are(were) sh*t and are never going to make the finals. he is a cricket and rugby fan. understandably so, i kind of understood where he was coming from. football in a rugby mad nation n all that crap. NOW, he comes along to almost every home game whenever he's available. Several others started believing after Bahrain game. so overall, people's expectations HAVE GONE UP in general. but there'll always be people like Mic(h)ael Lolz to downtalk the game... so skroo them and keep believing in Phoenix...

Send him a polite email with a couple interesting statisitics on crowd numbers and ask him for his opinion.

If he ascts like an arse, and he will quote him to the Dominion, grab some publicity for the nix rising support, make him look like and uneducated twat.

Brilliant!!

Just emailed this tot he Wanagui Chronicle, I couldn;t resist:

In November, the esteemed Mayor of W(h)anganui made the following statement about football, in relation to the All-White's qualification for the world cup  "Sadly, last Saturday night was the lifecycle of the mayfly. It is already over." .
It seems that consistent results and crowds for the PWellington Phoenix and the recent form of Chris Woods and Ryan Nelson here in England have  proved our mayfly is somewhat more resilient.
Mr Laws (now widely referred to as Mr. Lols) has cemented his place in the annals of New Zealand local politics idiocy. Why the good citizens let their public representatives embarrass their town in such a way is beyond me.
"sadly, Mr Law's analysis is pop-eye without his spinach. Weak"

Which would be a little embarrassing if either Laws or anybody at the Chronicle had any idea about the world outside the Shire. I fancy these errors will flutter, mayfly-esque, under the radar.
