Id argue they could also be more determined to win. Teams that dont have a lot going for them and have to use backup players often come out fighting, especially at home.

just like Adelaide last week. Although we were all over them. I think we can be just as dominating this week if our AW's return all fit and focussed.

I would also like to see Durante given a shot at RB? If it doesn't work then just switchhim and siggy round after 20 mins or whatever.
With that in mind, I'd like to see maybe

               Crowther
Durante  Sigmund  McKain  Lochhead
            Brown       Lia
Bertos                             Daniel
            Greenacre Ifill

Paston // Hearfield// Caceres // Chen

IMO we either start Muscat or he doesn't make an appearance on the bench.
With Sigmund/ Durante/ Lia / Hearfield all viable options there, he doesn't have enough versatility we need for a 3 man bench.

Caceres and Chen must be given Bench time soon and the chance to prove thmeselves worthy as Lia and Daniel have.
Ferrante and Diego lose out though because they havn't proved themselves. The latter more of course.

Wouldn't mind a rotation on the bench though because we should be giving all the boys a run at some point and thats going to give everyone something to aspire to and step up to. If they can, then they have a shot to make the starting lineups.

Expect to see Bertos, Lochhead back in the starting lineup but don't know how many other AW players will start again. VERY interested to see Caceres and Chen

imo we will have a very good chance. We have never performed well at the TD but Melbourne are in a bit of a spin at the moment - Hernandez will be tired, Allsopp gone, Archie and the like unsettled, Celeski - their only other consistantly good creative midfielder - gone for the season. Celeski being out means that Brebner is on the field - and he is about 2 years past his best.
Yeah but thats the just the thing with us and those games we should do well in,they seem to bite us on the butt more often than that.I still have nightmares over last seasons Perth results.

A bit like every NZ sports team ever - can't cope with expectation

How come after 10 minutes there when we were only going forward is Hearfield a right back?

He is an option.

He's most definitely not at RB lol. But why have Muscat on a bench when hearfield will cover his position and more. Especially when we rarely  replace our back 4, and have a small bench playwithFire2009-09-09 16:35:58

You really can't expect the phoenix AW's to contribute more than 30 to 40 mins so soon after the middle east trip. Playing Melb away is tough enough. You need your whole team 100% otherwise you will get overun. I would hope that the the bulk of the side comes from the guys who have stayed behind.

We only have had a small bench since Elrich left. The club didn't need the extra wide bench any longer!

Yeah looks pretty good, even if Caceres is not going to be on the bench.

Yeah I think Siggy's play last week was not a lot different from Manny who also gets caught out when going forward. Think it's the tactics. Agreed Manny in for Durante.

"Gold Coast coach Miron Bleiberg may have a quality replacement in Brazilian Milson to fill the void but the coach will be concerned with striker Shane Smeltz's preparation as the New Zealand international plays for his country in Jordan on Thursday night before flying to Perth in billionaire owner Clive Palmer's private jet for Sunday's game."

The good life for Smeltzy.

Wonder if Palmer'd be kind enough to fly an extra leg and drop off a few Phoenix All Whites in Melbourne?

but if you stomp on his knee that'll be him for the season .

The 442.com.au picture of him is a classic - pointy ears, little rubber band and all. So we have to suffer through playing the little ^*@# more than twice this season - that's not gonna be good for YF's collective blood pressure.

I just hope we play better than them, and frustrate him into doing something stupid and angry again. Just as long as he doesn't take anyone else out with him from our side it would be funnier to watch...

He does give something that Melbourne don't really have. But I don't know if this was a good choice for him. Wonder if we will be getting regular starts? We better wipe the floor with them now. gonna go simulate on fifa haha

What ?

Petulance ?
Whining ?
Diving ?
Filthy fouls ?
Off field headlines ?

Melbourne have them covered but if they want more, they've got them.

How's my driving? - Whine here

I hope Ricki's pre-match talk goes something like this:

Vinnie, you aim for the stomach, studs nice and high. Jonny, your gonna take out his legs as he falls, go right through the back of his knees and maybe some studs in the back of the thigh as you get up again. Siggy, you go for a stomp on the ankles, make sure he can't get up. That leaves a free shot for you Leo, do what you will but make the little bitch wish he had stayed in Brissy.
You know we belong together...
