Michael ferrante- 'pure class"

Ferrante was quality in the first half when the Nix were going forward. Was suited to wide on the right then was swapped with Daniel for some reason.

He did get into scoring positiions and he did pull the trigger - unlike may others.

I thought he had a strong game today,  unlike Aloisi. Richard Johnson also played well in central midfield.

Elsewhere we were impressive, except for up front which hapend when you ask someone who has been playing as a duo to play as a lone striker.

Having said that - should have won it. Gutted we got nothing out of it.

Today's was Ferante's best game, esp first half. He was our bit of speed in the midfield. Crap shooting, but we have other players who would be vying for "the worst in the league" who didn't get on the pitch even.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

I saw him as a bit of a terrier, but couldnt finish today. Nor could anyone else. Their goal was from a deflection remember.

In the first half his distribution and contirbution was excellent.

Second half the old ferrante came back.

The only position for him is centre forward at the tip. Absolute mince player.

After watching the replay on tv...Ferrante didnt do too badly in the first half. Alot of players did worse. Also i was watching world of football and was supprised to learn..he can finish! Or he used to be able to.

By the sounds of it he had a crap season last yr so he's just getting back into things and improving in every game. I've changed my opinion. I say we give him time to improve and support him. (i admit to taking the piss out of him for the entire match and yelling abuse at him when he left the pitch).

Does anyone know who he played for in Italy?

He's WELL ARD!!!

I reckon he didn't have a great game, his distribution was a bit lacking in the second half and he wasn't particularly creative, but IMO definitely see potential for him in that midfield, alongisde a fit again Brown and big Ross. And for those who are sl*gging off aloisi id say your havin a laugh, the reason you don't see him is because he's our 10 yard man playing in front of the back four. Now he's well ard!

I agree Ferrante was average in the first two games, but I though he had a well above average game against the Jets, especially in the 1st half.

He was always giving an option to the man on the ball and worked his ass off. The only reason people notice his mistakes is because he gets around the field so much he gets a lot of ball.

Also thought johnson was class.

It's easy to blame someone who's missed a few chances, no matter if they'd gone in or not.

Those chances should've fallen to a striker

Played for Comprens Stabia and Benevento.

Last season Benevento played in Serie C2 group 3 (ie:the southern region where despite being professional players dont actually get payed ), the same league where Rafs old club Sorrento play (funny-when i was on holiday in Sorrento i saw 2 peaople wearing Sorrento shirts with  De Gregorio on the back so he obviously made quite an impact . I couldnt find what league Comprens Stabia play in..but i shudder to think..

I think some people have some unrealistic expectations of the quality of players you will find in the A-League. Ferrante is a good midfielder, he holds and distributes the ball, tackles well, and isn't afraid of having a shot, and at least he was in the box when he skied that shot. Just dint expect him to be a Lampard or Gerrard, if any of our players were up to that standard do you think they would be in wellington. I think people have have to understand this isn't the premier league and the phoenix's performance on Sunday (despite the result) was excellent given the resources at our clubs disposal.

i second that ubergunner, the quality is as good as any other A league team, they did play well on Sunday, and i believe on any other day would of got a better result. Ferrante gave a performance as good as the other Phoenix players, just this time i think Brown to start and Ferrante on the bench???

It's slack that everybody is looking for a scapegoat...Ferrante puts in a ton of running...pops up in the right place to get a shot in...alright he missed a few on Sunday, but at least he was in with a chance...

We were watching him reasonably closely after feeling that he was getting a bit of stick from the first 2 games and were impressed with how much of the field he covered, how many times he was the first one to pressure the opposition or get a tackle in and his willingness to take the ball...

It was a pretty stinky result, but the first half was worth the ticket price...On any other day we would have been 2 nil up at half time...

i thought he was good also, just unlucky some things he tried didn't come off, that's football, so is  losing to a sh!te goal as  well !

agreed (with Frankie's comment), it seems that though we can all push our luck from time to time, me included, we probably need to bear in mind that it's about talking football and having a bit of a laugh not caps lock and name calling

meant to say a few days back - this board is brilliant - cheers to the mods and who ever started the whole show!!

Ferrante is useless. He's done well proving that the last 2 outings.

regarding posts that sl*g off players -

how about considering the possibility that -

1 - all players have strengths and all players have weaknesses

2- a coach's job is to try to produce a team (partly in response to knowledge about the opposition) that will have the greatest number of complementary strengths, and the highest possible likelihood of being balanced in such a way as to not expose too many of the weaknesses

I'm not sure if you'll be able to use that statement to improve the quality of your analysis of the performance of individual players, but I live in hope

in short (and as others have said) calling a player "useless" really doesn't indicate that you understand how football works

I find that reading a post through before i press "post reply" helps me to avoid posting stuff that's even more rambling/weird/dumb than the stuff you've actually seen (sometimes i just press "clear form" and save us all the bother!)

feel free to try that approach when necessary

Agreed

His pass with the outside of the right foot to Daniel to win the penalty WAS class. Plus an all round hard working performance. He certainly doesnt hide, so is bound to catch the eye for right or wrong reasons.

Tonight a contender for MOM.

He did some good passes but still dont rate him. Gave away the ball heaps and is lazy on defence. Still think he's a weak link.
