MOM vs GCU

For me it was Durante, showing why he was once one of the leagues best defenders. Plenty of other good performances fromn Paston, Siggy, Lia and Brown of course, Bertos and obviously Ifill. I just don't understand why we can't score, our positioning is generally terrible and we can't shot but why is nothing changing?

Durante must of known Pim was in the stands, immense performance, Bertos had a great first half and Paston didn't put a foot wrong.
You know we belong together...

I'm gonna go with Brown, but its hard to seperate him and Lia.  To shut down the GC midfield completely was a great effort.  Great performances also from Sigmund and especially Durante.

Paston was mean.

Most of the team had a good outing, Durantes convincing leadership from the back gets my vote. Talk about leading by example

Siggy, I know he made a couple of mistakes but covered for Manny at times and completely worked his arse off, took a ball to the face and got straight back up.

Quality performance across the back, although all four made the odd blunder which could've been punished if GCU weren't such crap tonight. Siggy is very switched on. He's got at that rare gift of reading a game (like when he read a GCU quick throw and got a foot in to defuse the potential break) which makes up for a slight lack of mobility.

Even so, I'm giving it to Durante. So often ordinary last season, now he's leading by example and doing it every week. Superb tonight.

I would like to see anyone try and say anything sh*t about paston this game, strength to strength this season.

Durante got my vote. he was the man tonight. if any goals got scored bertos prolly wouldve got it.

didn't see the game, so loathe to comment but it sounds like it should be Herbs.  It seems tactically we were spot on is nullifying a very strong attacking side, limiting them to very few chances.

Sounds like Lochhead had another epic game, he's really lifted himself since the Boro trial. Man gets my vote.

TBH Paston would get a lot more credit without your continued idolatory...! I'm a fan too...had a big game, but so did the guys in front of him. Porter got away from Durante once early on, but not again in the rest of the game.

We were solid across the park.

The first full 90mins that we have played this season and Herbert needs a pat on the back for his tactics.

Also, why cant we have a First Time A-League Referee every week???

He let the game flow quite well.

I've always been a fan of Durante. I think he get lumped with some of the mistakes that Sigmund sometimes makes. That said, it can not be denied that for the last 4 games, he has been a rock in the centre back position and been the leader and the best CB in the comp. The fact that this goal scoring machine that is GCU did f**k all in terms of goals, possessions (and a truck load of offsides) speaks volumes.

On a side note in the last 3 games, GCU had conceded 8 goals (Perth, CCM and Melbourne) and we score none..... Ricki was right, they were ripe for picking.

Sigmund for me

Lia, Durante, Bertos and Ifill all good too.

shout out to the ref as well, he was quite good I felt.
2 clean sheets in a row, is this a world record?

Ref should have given Anderson a yellow in the first half (the Ifill free kick). But otherwise, spot on.

I must say though, the Linesmen/Referees Assistants the last few weeks have been outstanding at policing the offside.

Yeah except him not giving cards too often he had a terrific first game.

Leo for me. I have never seen him make so many good almost-length-of-the-field runs. Only problem was that he obviously has been directed to shoot more and a couple of times passing would've been the better option.

Dura 2nd. Was a monster all night and has been that way for a couple of weeks now.

And yeah, the ref should've handed out a card or two once we got cut down for the 10th time (anyone know what the foul count was? I remember about 3-4 from Anderson on Leo alone)

Dura played well.  Paston had his second good game of the season (and in a row which is a good sign).  Bertos played well.  Daniel, bar his pathetic backheel, was great.

Sigmund played reasonably well.  Deserved to get the ball booted into his face after that terrible defensive header, though.

decent game againt Gold Coast but still worries me when punching instead of catching the ball

The whole backline was very good, Paston too. Brown and Lia commanded central midfield. Leo was fantastic in the first half, and Ifill did well considering he was really struggling with his injury.

Voted for Dura, thought he had a very commanding performance.

I think Caceres is playing how most thought he would - moments of sweet skill, but wayward and gives the ball away a lot.

Yep.
I like tautologies because I like them.

And will be best used as an impact player. Will get in a huff when he doesn't get any starts I bet.Diego is probably like that already

I am hoping those two will learn from Daniel and work harder off the ball to try and get back into the team. Who was it that threw a hissy at 4 Kings when Caceres turned over the ball and didn't try and win it back? lol

Running total before Gold Coast match (3 points for 1st, 2 for second, 1 for third each week).

Bertos 11 Ifill 11 Greenacre 7 Paston 4 Sigmund 4 McKain 3 Daniel 2 Brown 2 Muscat 2 Diego 2 Durante 1 Lochhead 1

Adding caveat that you must get at least 5% of votes to pick up points, as sometimes players pick up one point from only 2 votes (when one or two players completely dominate the poll):

Bertos 11 Ifill 10 Greenacre 7 Paston 4 McKain 3 Daniel 2 Brown 2 Sigmund 2 Muscat 2 Diego 1 Durante 1 Lochhead 1
