Felipe's workrate tonight was massive. I've never seen him more
determined both in attack and defence. OK, not everything he tried
worked out but he ran himself into the ground for the team. A+
I'm slightly worried about Elrich though. Is he not
comfortable playing that wide role? This week and last week he
seems content to mostly whack in oblique crosses instead of running
the defender right to the byline and putting in a killer cross.
We're not seeing the best of him yet.

Two goals from Daniel gets my vote - shame only one of them
counted.
Thought Adelaide's MOTM was probably their goalie - cut out a lot of our set pieces. Either him or the ref.

Felipe? Don't make me laugh. It looks pretty but lacks
substance. He isn't hurting opposition defences the way he
should be. Happy to be shot down but I would leave him out
next week and bring Covs back.

I went for Daniel. Thought Felipe was OK but hopefully he'll pack
those stupid f**king stepovers in.
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

i picked daniel, felipe is not a striker he's an attacking
midfielder who let smeltz down a lot in the first half by tracking
back into the midfield to much we need cov's and smeltz up front
and felipe back in the midfield running amok although
he was damn unlucky not to be given a penalty in the second half,
that ref was unbelievable !

i'd rather see a player who invariably draws two defenders and can make things happen - the way the strikers finished isn't felipe's fault
covs was great for the first 10 he was on, certainly harried the defence , but having covs in the middle from the start is surely going to invite even more diagonal balls into the box from elrich ,- which appear not to work
when elrich or someone down the right got past the full back and pulled a ball back into the box (mid second half) we looked a completely different proposition in terms of creating a finishable chance

as i said earlier on a different thread, felipe for me, he wanted
to make things happen, worked his arse off, and as noted by many -
he brings the crowd to its feet (which is some achievement in our
first year of educating Wellington in the wonderful art of football
support)
any other team in the A-league would have him in a flash - let's hope ricki gets him signed for next season and beyond
the good thing is he might be too stuffd to turn it on tonight for a world-wide audience (which indicates to me he is thinking about the club, ahead of his own ego/career) and which means he might not get 'stolen' from us

Felipe. Loving him at the moment. He may not be finishing - but the
way he takes the complete piss is worth the entry fee alone

Im felipe too. workrate immense. go to guy. anything creative we
did came through him. united had 11 men behind half the game and
his unbelievable feet still managed to create. withouth him we
would have been limited to lumping the ball into the box from
distance. yes, he makes the odd mistake but that's because he is at
the heart of everything. some of his touches and his feet were off
this planet.
I always struggle to stomach the bagging of players who are
taking responsibility and trying to make things happen. too easy to
pass the ball sideways, backwards and let somebody else try and
create.
Daniel good too. if covs had knocked in his primo cross daniel
might have pinched mom from felipe. thought smeltz was possibly our
best in the first half, but quiet second. covs made good impact -
wish he'd scored though!

Yes, Daniels the man for me!
Great work rate on attack and defense. Closely followed by Felipe.....loved those touches. Still think he should be in the pocket behind two strikers.
Those two are worth the price of admission just for entertainment value. Does that plonker who bagged Felipe want him dropped?.....and replaced by who?.....Christie!
Hope Rickie recruits an out and out stricker next year. Someone with real pace.
I think Smeltz is OK but other teams now know that because of his lack of pace if you keep a defender between him and the goal he will never go around them. Probably why he has been less effective in the second half of the comp.
There were so many crosses coming into the box last night....a top striker could have had a hat trick!

Elrich needs to do more. The most frustrating thing is not seeing
him want to have a run at defenders, but to throw over usually
inaccurate crosses that are pretty easily cut out by an organised
defence. So that component of getting in behind the defender and
whipping over a ball from the goal that is coming back toward your
incoming players, is missing. How sad. I expected more from 'Mr
Marquee.' He looks out of shape.
I still don't quite know how Adelaide scored that 2nd goal.
Can anyone help me figure it out?

Architect = Nathan Burns - lovely run and pass to
Agostino. Beautiful layoff by Agostino (their man of the
match BTW) and untracked run by Pantelis who just shaded Dodd for
pace to poke it under Moss. If you look back 30 seconds, it's
a great run by Pantelis - he was in the centre circle and was the
one who actually gave the ball to Burns; he then continues his run
and is rewarded.

Me too for wanting to be able to give a negative vote to Elrich - I thought he was known for speed, and therefore I've been patiently waiting for him to go past the left full back and cross with his right foot from near the goalline. Instead he just keeps on cutting back onto his left foot level with the front edge of the penalty area, and crosses the ball swerving away from our attackers into the goalkeeper's hands. I'm now bored of waiting - unfit or not, time for him to start delivering! Get in the gym!
Daniel was MOM for me, but I was very very disappointed overall. Most of the players seemed strangely sluggish for a lot of the time compared to other recent games - my wife suggested it looked like a lot of the players were on drugs!! If I could have voted for the fans as MOM I would - thought we did a great job last night!

he got a yellow in the dying minutes of the game - looked like he was mouthing off at the ref or his assistant from the sideline. (I assume as Christie was a named substitute he is considered a player).

Agreed, he has shown no quality at all recently, cant believe
his support on this forum.
Need covs up with smeltz. Elrich needs to deliver a little
later into the box, and can a brazillian or elrich please
pick out a striker with a cross (like bertos in nz game) so I can
finally agree they have some ability.

most teams in the world start the match with at least one ball winner in midfield,
Tim Brown does as good a job as either Aloisi or Johnson in covering, nipping in, letting it go that's his job
a job that doesn't get noticed - unless you are watching that player deliberately
in terms of creativity - for me his asset his ability to put the ball in the path of a player with a first-time touch - which can be as creative as a jinking run, or a 40 yard diagonal ball (it just doesn't get noticed, as easily)

Felipe and Daniel for me too. Once Smeltz can get the finishing
right we on for a big game with alot of goals.
They both take the piss and that is when things happen. They
both draw players to them and create chances that somtimes go
begging but they are being created.

All to dam slow in closing attackers down - gave
the the striker way to much time when all that was needed was a
nice tough tackle, even taking a yellow card - eg. as
they tackle us in the last 7 minutes - are we too soft
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Felipe was a magician at times so motm for me. The brazilian piss
taking flair is sometims unnecessary but is so good
to watch and you dont see it often. If you dont win at least you
get some of that class.

umm what are you on about? how badly has smeltz hurt the
opposition as of late? unless the goal is laid on a plate for him
he can't finish his own lunch. his first touch is shocking too. so
frustrating to watch.
felipe at least is an entertainer and is a joy to watch, hence
why he gets a lot of support. along with the fact a lot of his
touches are good, positive ones. replacing him with coveny would be
a negative move imo, id drop smeltz for coveny.

Nice to see some good analysis. Our defence does seem to
struggle against forwards with pace and technique, who can vary
their play, doesn't it.
