I pretty much got sick of listening to the word Moss tonight -
that's a good thing. Moss 100%

Moss.
Honorably mention Aloisi, he played his heart out tonight, brilliant captain. If he was fitter and stayed on the whole 90 we wouldn't have lost. There, I said it.

Moss.
Unbelievable conflict of interest it seems can be the only
reason he's not in goal for the All Whites.

Moss, Aloisi and Felipe all had blinders I thought. Aloisi
certainly silenced my criticisms of how he's played so far tonight.
Really stepped up. Just unfortunate we didn't have a Tim Brown to
come on to replace him or Johnson near the end.
Rees didn't make any mistakes and looked comfortable in his first game. I don't really remember him which is a good thing for a defender
At least it gets O'Dor
out of the starting line up..

Moss easily. He deserved a clean sheet as much as we deserved the
win.
Honourable mention to Rees, if only we signed him earlier! Hope to see him in yellow and black next year.

Moss probably should win this (and is) however I voted for Kristian
Rees. The guy was ditched from the Adelaide team and went
down into a local club, yet in only his first game back in the
A-League he's proved he should be there and did a lot towards
making our defense solid. We've just gotta smack those boys
upside the head and tell em to be sensible in the last 5,
especially with Moss in fine form.

Moss pulled off more saves than Jesus in this game. That had
to be his best game for the Nix yet. It was tragic that a penalty
in the last minute was the only time he didn't perform a miracle
save. I was in Aisle 21 Row D today/night and had an awesome
view of this man. He came of his line, he caught instead of
punching (Except twice), He jumped High, He commanded his
area and what a shot stopper. f**ked if I know how he
pulled of at least 3 saves that Gordon banks would have been proud
of.
I could talk all night about his game.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

MOSSSSEEEEEEE! genius! absolute blinder!
Rees is an truly excellent signing on tonight's performance - great anticipation, reads the game well, and decisive
great first half from johno, Aloisi might have silenced a few detractors tonight!
for a team with 5 first team regulars out that was a class performance

Moss has improved heaps since the start of this season. He's like a
different player from the keeper I watched a few times for the
Kingz / Knights
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Mossy really, saved the Phoenix time and time again. But he dont look like saving penalties does he?
But I actually gave my vote to Rees, who I watched pretty
carefully throughout the match, and he gave me more confidence than
Christie has been giving me. Rees tried his heart out, looked
reasonably confident considering, and pushed the laws of the game
quite close and got away with it a few times. Well done mate, shame
the Phoenix couldnt have won for you.

great game from Glen- so sad that the most consistent performer is the keeper -he should be inconspiuous-his defence let him down, so he had to shine........

I voted for Old.
We are picking the man of the match for Sydney right?
He earned them a point.

I reckon Rees will start at right back instead of Christie and
Christie will play at midfield
Permalink

Isn't Rees a CB? He's a bit too slow for a full back. (we were
playing with a back 3 today remember)
Will probably be Lochhead-Dodd-Rees-Christie/Old

my vote went to Rees - really looked like he knew what he was
doing, both from a positional sense and a commitment to tackle when
it counted - rather than back-pedalling which seems to be the
standard WP defensive tactic.

Moss for me, best performance by a keeper this season.
He definately earned that point. He dominated the 6 yard
box, took every ball securely and those reflex saves were world
class.
Rees looks like a great acquisition and stood out
in a defence that was woeful again. Only terrible
finishing by Sydney and Moss brilliance kept it under 3
again.

i'll go Mossy- but was impressed by everyone. Great determination.
You could see it on Aloisi's face. Great to have the trickster
Felipe back - how good was that backwards meg. Well done to Rees
too.

A few things. Moss was pretty fantastic but there were some other
great performances as well!
Ferrante:
What an improvement, some of his passes where right out of the top drawer, he played out of his skin.
Aloisi:
Can't believe more people didn't vote for him. His best game in a Phoenix shirt so far and as somebody else said, had he been on the pitch for the full 90 we probably wouldn't have been trying to play silly ole football and let them get that penalty.
Rees:
Wow, he was fantastic. Absolutely dominated as part of our back 3, and gave confidence to Old and Dodd as well. A commanding performance and he will be in our first XI for the rest of the season.
Lia:
Who voted for him? He gave away the ball with that wild pass across the face (one of the first things you are taught NEVER to do) which led to the goal. He wasn't the only one playing that silly stuff (that we were applauding perhaps a little too much from the stands!), but it was a dreadful mistake that turned the match.
The abuse of the referee:
From what I could see, Old clearly chopped down their player in the box. It was a straight penalty and if (as I think was the case) Old already had a yellow it was a fair red as well (for a second yellow offence, I seem to remember the ref showing him a yellow before pulling the red card out).
The fault for that goal was all ours, we started to do silly things by passing the ball around in front of our front 4 and while we probably didn't deserve a draw based on our performance across the full 90 you just can't go doing stupid things like that unless you are at least 2 - 0 up. I don't know what happened with the Coveney situation (a yellow card or two was probably merited) but not sending somebody off in that situation was sensible refereeing. The ref was a little trigger happy, but remember that he did give that red card for the chop on Daniel, so the decisions cut both ways. By hurling abuse at refs as they walk off the pitch is not going to get them on our side, especially if they actually haven't done THAT bad of a job.
The Supporters:
Finally, I noticed some guys in Retro Ricki's who were with that group of people dressed up as Ninja turtles who went wandering around the top area of aisles 24 + 25 chanting "For the politically correct, sit down." I was at the game with some family (I'm a season ticket holder with a seat in the YF Zone) who wanted to sit down and enjoy the game in the less crazy surrounds of aisle 24.
Abusing our own fans just because they don't immediately leap to their feat for one of the (far too many) chants of "for the Phoenix stand up" is absolutely pathetic. Running this chant once or twice during the game is ok, but five or six times just gets to be a drag and you can understand why people don't want to be continually getting up and down.
Going to see football in NZ is not PC by definition, we want as many people as possible to come and support the Phoenix. Some people have very good reasons for not wanting to be part of the hardcore support, and just because they aren't showing as much "passion" as you are doesn't make you a better supporter somehow. So please, don't give these people a hard time, because I would hate to see some of the drunken idiotic behavior that some fans are displaying turn away some of our other supporters.
