msg to wellington
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
i have a msg for wellington...i hope its not taken the wrong way its meant as encouragement....

i am a melbourne victory supporter and i want wellington to suceed almost as much as you guys im sure do....but i think you must look at melbourne victory's success. and the wellington fans need to be aware that fans have a role to play....

1) establish a supporter group or two or three but have them all sit together and create a great atmosphere...in a city like melbourne which is AFL crazy it is important to sell the games as a great atmosphere to keep crowds up even when the team is going crap (like melbourne in 1st a-leauge year).....

2) use the internet and forums like this to increase awareness of the supporter groups and to organise supporter groups...

3) urge everyone in the supporter group and using all mediums to bring as many friends as possible to the games...bring friends, family, everyone you can get to go.....

this is a new team in a new leauge and fans need to get behind it for it to suceed....

get a supporter group and back it with organisation take away any agendas apart from the wellington sucess...make it a great loud, but safe atmosphere.

i know....as i said i didnt mean that msg to be patronising i mean it as encouragement...whats the supporter group name then?
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Ha. Of cource, us kiwis have never supported a team before and havn't got a clue how to do it.
Also, there aren't any ex-pat English people living in NZ, so when it comes to support at a football match we have to take advice from Aussies, who've been doing it for.. . . wait. . ..  3 years.

LOL. Good one jack.

i agree with this guy completely, FANS CLUB i'm going to start one at VIC so look out students
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Bloody Aussies, think they know everything and everyone else don't.

if other aussies come on here giving us advice, please:

A: Look at the f**king name of the forum. Oh sh*t, yellow fever, I wonder....

B: We know how to support a team.

And coming from a Melbourne fan, aint it kinda rich, youre all a load of bandwagoners...

ok so is it called the

yellow fever club? the yellow fever army?

yellow fever brigade or something else appropriate for nz?

does it have a leader? a boss? a capo? who is it?  does it have an organisng committee? how is it elected?

does it cost money to join? what are they member benefits?

most importantly will the fan club have some official relationship with the football club?
to what extend will the fan club be associated with the football club? can the fan club lobby for some funding from the football club?

does the fan club support flares? will it sell merchandise? scarfs, flags? t shirts?

Yes, the people that run the site, obviously.

Well, that went well!!!

Oh my, How many times are people going to visit the supporters club website and ask if there is a supporters club? This is insane!!

Perhhaps the homepage should have a big banner what says "Welcome to the supporters club of Wellignton Phoenix FC". Maybe that will get the message accross.. . .
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yeah the banner at the top of the page really doesn't contain enough information

sorry guys...i truly thought i was starting a needed converation......well at least i started some of you guys hating us....lets build the rivarly shall we lol...

You're okay Rob.  Just we keep getting the same messages from Melbourne fans telling us how to do this, many less civil than you.  Many of us have been supporting the NZ side for up to 8 years now and to have people who only discovered the game two years ago telling us what to do is more than a little patronising.

You make some good points, and you probably just got caught in the flow-on from all the other crap that has been posted, although if you had looked back through some of the threads you would see much of it is already covered...

Ill be honest with you jokers I converted to footy during euro 2004 when greece beat portugal 1-2 in the opening game. so i am still new(ish) to the game in NZ.
But i can tell you that I support flares/chants/banners/bombs at games. Even i know about how supporters clubs work and it is patronising when you ausy fans come onto oursite telling us what we should do
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Oi,
I've followed the game 45 years man and boy
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Folks, what we want here is fans for the phoenix. Nuff said.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Don't say sorry Rob, some of those points were good ones that us as Phoenix fans need to take on board. I know that some of the stuff you said we have already heard, but i think some of our fellow Nix fans overreacted.

I look forward to the opening game of the season.

I invented it

PS - I am sure 'WPF or Death' and 'RobCrow' must in fact be the same person under two identities working to wind us up - because it is not possible for two individuals to independently be so completely witless.

Shame on us for biting.

Oh snap!

Well, I go by the age old rule that if its stupid, ignore it and it might go away. Unless you can make fun of it, in which case BRING IT ON!!!

Robcrow has some insight amid a slightly misdirected pitch. In other words, he's probably drunk.
The main thing I thought he was smart to point out (and this is probably way early days to even talk about), is whether or not to have a more official structure with fees and stuff that gets you the hookups on certain stuff. However, a) I think NZ is sorta too laid back in general to get into this, they'd kinda rather do it all on a grass-roots level (people just doing it cos they love the sport, not running it like a business), and b) we don't even have a team yet (but we WILL, damnit ).

Other than that, Robcrow and all you well-wishing Melbournians/Oztralians, we appreciate the support, but we're of half a mind that we like it better when you're blood-sworn rivals. You're the brother we love to hate, and look forward to beating. Well, at least that's how I see it.

Hard News, can you word limit the posts? Or maybe just my ones.

sorry my friend but i wasnt tryng to be witty or wind any one up, i am new to the game but i think football firms are an interesting topic especially in europe because of the social and political contexts behind them.

hey i can assure everyone that i am not the other bloke and dont know him......

secondly- aussies are laid back as well...and everyone sorta likes just rocking up, but the one thing i think we learnt here in melb is that the Aleaugue has no tradition, cause it new. if it was 100 years old, then u could rely on just wat always happens...or if your club had all the money in the world you could just rely on an evolving tradition...but we have no time...melbourne just like wellington will need to, had to make an impact on the general public from day one. in place of traditions you need organisation...it goes back to the arguement that melbourne supporters had for like 2 years of whether supporter culture of a team should be allowed to evolve naturally or be manufactured- i think you can argue it for ever...but the reality is that it need to be both...and in the case of a new team, you need fast result so i think its really important to get a struture...have clear identifable goals and systems even if not everyone agrees with them, because they will change over time...but if you dont manufacture them from the start it just will take so much longer...anyway alot of you have made it clear its not our place to give advice and i am not really cause i didnt start the supporter culture at melbourne...but i think there are similarities between
melbourne and wellington and the task you guys have... so i think should learn from our mistakes and our success and change it according to what is best for wellington.

i hope you guys can do well so we can beat you over and over again lol
