Today I went to the city mission in Newtown to give Christmas Hampers to the families that needed them. I went with my dad, and a couple of Wellington Rugby guys, also there were the Wellington Firebirds and the one and only Wellington Phoenix. There was Terry, Ricki, Smeltz, Lia, Old, Dodd and a couple of other staff.

In my group I had Smeltz, which was awesome. We went around Karori giving out hampers, then we gave Smeltz a ride back to his car.

He was awesome to talk to, he told us about his training and everything else. I asked him if we (YF) were loud on the pitch and he said hell yeah, and that there is nothing else compared to us in the A-League... I thought that was pretty cool.

Just thought I would share my story today.

Merry Xmas Yellow Fever!

P.S The One news camera's were there so I might be on.

Sorry mate, I've boycotted One News so I can't watch to see if you or any of the Phoenix players are on it.loyalgunner2007-12-24 13:28:32

Because they're not particularly Phoenix friendly, not that I've seen much better from anyone other than World of Football and Mr Woodcock in the Dom Post.

good on you Harry for your efforts and your post but re TV 1 I'm with Critical L

your answer will probably come from how TV1 cover it

even without the that little weasel Vietch, if they are true to form they will ignore or diss the Phoenix, and wank on about the rugby players (despite the fact that according to your report the Phoenix showed more support for the charity)

like critical lemon, i along with a large number of other YF regard TV1 as arrogant football haters, compared to TV 3 who have actually given us a decent crack of the whip

pse let us know if they mend their ways

Do they even give the AW's any sort of decent coverage on the news (we of course all know thier live coverage is sh*t)?

What disapoints me is that from what I've seen even The Crowd Goes Wild isn't very pro-Nix despite their apparent love of European football. Maybe it's a plus since they act like prats sometimes.

They are probably like what Pulp Sport made them out to be.

I also boycott One News, unfortunately Harry.

TV3 provides far superior and far more positive football coverage.

But I will check to see if your clip is on their website - as a major personal compromise of principle

Wow I never knew there was so much hate for One News... Fair enough though their support has been sh*t for the Phoenix.

I may be the only feverite watching.

Regardless of everyones debate of which news they prefer (and I'm with all in backing TV3s support and coverage of the Nix and of football) but that sounds like a great day Harry.

Good on you for helping the City Mission and in giving the less fortunate ones some support at this time of need.  But a huge bonus for you to see the phoenix there and to spend some time with Smeltz.

Good on yah fella....

I never watch TV aside from Phoenix away matches...but I usually end up watching TV3's sports news with my flatmates. Loving the coverage they give, shame to hear One isn't as good, but hey, what do you expect when TVNZ puts the All Whites on freeview for the three freeview users to watch...

That aside, and for more importantly-  Awesome work Harry, good on ya and your dad for giving a hand. Would love to join in next year if I'm in the city (I'm up in boring old Tauranga seeing the folks this year). Glad to see the Phoenix were well represented. Also appreciate the efforts of the WRFU and the Firebirds, but let's face it - the Phoenix are the most important team in the city
