Wayne O'Sullivan is to join ther Phoenix as Ricki Herbert's assistant coach.
The 33-y-o O'Sullivan, has got a two-year deal and played the
last 2 season for the Mariners.
Suprising to say the least.
I guess its OK, he knows the A-League, but I was suspecting a proper coach and all.

Yeah me too...hell know the ins and outs of the A-league somewhat
so it not too bad.
Doesn't say anywhere if he's playing. He was still more than
useful for the Salty Dogs last season.
From the Sydney Morning Herald
"In other A-League news, dumped Central Coast Mariners midfielder Wayne O'Sullivan has been handed an assistant coaching role at Wellington Phoenix while his playing future is decided. O'Sullivan, who was born in Cyprus and represented Ireland at youth level, is appealing against his Football Federation Australia classification as an import."
Maybe he will be playing for us

Thanks.
If he can't he'd be a useful NZFC player... Hard News2007-05-18 10:39:16

From memory he's a more than useful Right Back as well. Those
we seem glaringly short of.
Good call - RB is a problem area

Thought u weren't a fan of players whove been dumped by other
A-League clubs, HN?

Only if they add additional value (such as being an Assitant
coach)
Double standards, we got 'em.

Double standards, we got 'em.
Would be a handy RB option, albeit only for a year.

Mmmm and a proper coach is what,i seem to recall he has nearly
completed fifas A coaching certificate.Sure hope some arnt already
questioning every thing that happens at Phoenix.I guess its OK, he knows the A-League, but I was suspecting a proper coach and all.

fair call. I reckon he's still a decent player, and a smart
one for goin out and gettin he's coachin license. Still an A-league
standard player.
This guy seems well qualified to do the job, he holds a (FIFA)
B
coaching licence and has a masters degree in education,
specialising in coaching from Sydney University, let alone his 2
seasons of experience at A-league level, I think he is well up to
the task.
I saw somewhere there was a question mark over his eligibilty as an
Australia due to not being born in OZ and so would be classed as an
import.
I suspect if he classes as a non import he will be signed as player as well.

Ricki said he could act as back-up.
Founder
Colin Tuaa anyone??
I really think it would have been magic for him to have some
sort of involvment within the club so I am a little
dissapointed.
But on the up side at least O'Sullivan has a lot of A League
knowledge.
That's what we needed - someone with extensive inside knowledge of
football in Australia.

Tuaa will appear somewhere else in double quick time I imagine.
Like Auckland City (check the very end of the Ian Robinson
article).
Those of you with the inside links may now...
If Sully gets cleared as a "local" with the FFA (unlikely) is he to be signed? I thought he did quite well at RB last season. Far from perfect, but in a league devoid of fullbacks...

Yeah we're light at RB - Old is more of a centre half and Chrisite
is cover. Bouckenouge (?) has played a bit there for us recently -
anyone know what position he's playing mainly in Belgium?

O'sullivan is a good hardworking player from what i can
