I'm not overly worried about the new users creating threads Tegal, it's the spammers that really need to be stopped.

How hard is it to add the email authorisation step to sign up? As far as I know this deters the spambots reasonably well.

I've just made a couple updates to the forum software. One of those is enabling what's called "turbolinks" (basically we don't reload some stuff every page load, instead we do it over AJAX - more on github if you're keen).

Only works if you have a pushState capable browser - Chrome, Safari, IE10+, Firefox 4+ (most likely a few others too).

I'm pretty confident this won't break anything, but if you notice any JS errors or anything weird happening, let me know.

More to come!

Chrome is doing some weird stuff man. Basically if you push the back button on your page, the page flickers the dates flicker (between 'yesterday' and 15 april) and the amount of new posts listed goes scrolling down the screen. i.e. instead of seeing "1 new post' you see it scrolled down the screen a few times under each other.

Also the page when it loads, goes to the very top of the last page when clicking on the new replies link

The dates are flickering because the "time ago" stuff is all done in JS. Not sure what's going on with the posts... got a screenshot?
Does it happen every time?
I'm going to implement a loader so you can see something spinning when the site is working, otherwise it's a bit weird :)

Yeah don't hit back in Chrome (mac). It was still going - the page hung

That's really odd, I'm using Chrome too and I don't get that. What version are you guys using?

Permalink Permalink

25.0.1

Also was the site down for a while? Just came back up for me.

I've just noticed it too using Chrome Version 26.0.1410.64 m up-to-date.
When I go back to forum topics page the "new posts" bit multiply and the column gets longer by repeating. Seems to about triple every time I go forward and back.
Mine gets fixed by a simple refresh though. You other boys have tried that right?

I'm finding the links to the 'new posts' are not taking me to the post.

In the Film Recommendation thread, I have 1 new post. The link on '1 new post' is - http://forums.yellowfever.co.nz/posts/854502

But it takes me to http://forums.yellowfever.co.nz/categories/off-topic/topics/film-recommendation?page=31

Ryan's Rovers - on it.

Everyone else - the duplicate bug is fixed now. How we feeling about the new snappy shininess?

Apologies for the intermittent downtime today guys. I'm getting a few things set up (Percona tools for MySQL) so we shouldn't have those issues ongoing. Can't promise we won't have more downtime but I'm doing my best to avoid it!

I have to say Nick, it is a lot snappier. Definitely noticed.

Seems strange, when I click 'open in another tab' it works but when I click on the link it doesn't.

Happens to me too occasionally. What keyboard are you using? It happens to me with SwiftKey.

This one is different to the existing one and only happened since your tweaks. I think the existing one is related to hidden posts.

The bloody 'blank last page' fault...

The best guess about that I've seen, is that it is caused by posts that have been hidden.

Correct. Nik and I are working on a better way to handle the paging which should fix this problem.

So much spamming recently.

Forum could almost qualify as a Monty Python skit.
