Hmm, strange. Must have had something to do with the automatic link recognition. I edited the link manually using the Add Link button and it seems to work now.

So I see that the ignore feature has been implemented, going by the fact I've posted in the Southern Football thread regarding the upcoming Dunedin Phoenix match and had no replies about it.

Are we far away from having the email notification feature? :)

Nik - can you stop Steve-O from hijacking my avatar and signature please?

Cheers

Doesn't really work does it. The lines "I'll be back" Don't think he says "i'm back" in the feature film.

If you posted it before the forum update, I'd say well done.

Back to the drawing board son.

Brilliant!

Besides, very few of the memes actually use the screenshot from the exact point when the line was said.

looks like we've got a spammer.  http://forums.yellowfever.co.nz/users/2012louboutin

That was incredibly annoying. Took me 10 minutes to clean up after him.

How easy is it to delete those spam topics patrick ?

Permalink Permalink
almost 13 years ago · edited almost 13 years ago · History

Have to hide the post, lock the thread and change the name. Pretty easy to do it once, it's just when there is 15 of them that need to be locked individually that take longer. Hopefully this will become easier once the forum software recieves improvements.

I thought you could make a feature where you can't create a new topic for 24 hours after creating an account, but then the spam would probably end up in threads, which would be more annoying.

I thought about this as well. I wouldn't be more annoying, if we hide that post then you guys won't be able to see that it ever existed. With a thread, it still shows up in the Active Topics list even when we hide all the posts and lock the thread.

Would also have the flow on effect where new legitamite users wouldn't be able to create new threads at first, which I think would be a good thing because when the newbies make them currently, they are either duplicates or in the wrong forum 95% of the time. A 24 hour stand down period would force them to look through the site first.

I agree a 24 hour period where they have to actually read the forums and get to know what's gong on, saves a lot of potential hassle and rework for the mods too.

Should be a six year "waiting period" for some!

Rather than time, a minimum number of posts (10?) before they can create threads would be best.

Could just result in the spammers spamming the threads 10 times. A combination of minimum posts and time could work. Could also just make it harder for the spammers to create accounts in the first place, need to talk to Nik about that.

Would cause people to spam before creating a thread. 24 hours means they have to wait before spamming, spammers aren't that patient.

Most of the spam is automated isn't it? Would assume the spam bots would just try, fail and move on.

I also mean new posters. Either that or it'd be more than 24 hours before they reach the mark anyway.
