With Spoons gone we need a new third under 20 player to fill his spot. Any ideas on who it might be.
I personally like Chettleburugh or how ever you spell his name. Looked by far and a way our best player at the world cup next to Gleeson and is only 16.
Apparently he had a trial or was to trial at Ipswich I think, but I dobn't know how that went. So if he's free grab him.

I liked him aswell, heard he tends to run with his head down too much, a little one dimensional.

I think Michael Boxall would be good though I think he may now be in the states. I thought he was very good when the under 20s played the Phoenix.

I have heard a rumor, about that now that we have a youth league we dont need to mave a minimun of three youth players. But as I said this was a rumour plese reply if you no it is not

if we want to get players sorted and involved pre-season re tactics etc, we'll need to sign them before the Olympics, which will also mean we get them before the o'seas scouts
i wonder if any players we apporach would hold out hoping for an o'seas deal (passport and work visa issues permitting) ?

Not too sure of the ages but Cole Peverley would be a shoe in. Best young player in the NZFC coming from that u20s team. Consistency HBUs most organised player and makes his team far better than without him

Minniecon impressed me with Roar last year with what time he did get on the pitch. But the U20's in the 'nix should all be kiwis IMO.

By having our U-20 players all Kiwis then that would help us produce good youngsters.

Also greek boi you forget that last year our u20 side actulayy beat their u20 side, atlest once if not twice, so that woudd suggest we have the same amount of quality if not more. It's just that their isn't the same chance for exposure in New Zealand to play because thier is one team.
In Aussie there is 7 teams. 7 X 3 = 21 potential furture stars getting a shot as oppossed to the three we can offer a shot.
Cole Peverly would be a good pick, apparently the Germany national age group team looked at him after he was name the Rostock clubsyouth player of the year. Must have quality to achieve that.

Pretty sure they have another year or two at college anyway (Henderson 1, Keat 2 maybe ?).

That disappoints me, as last season they were careful not to include O'Dor to make it clear the youth spots were for developing NZ youngsters. It would be a big statement to change that.

i don't get why sometimes they say U-20 and other times (see the latest news on Heartfield) they say U-21.
I understand the whole "must be under 20" when the season starts bla bla bla, but it makes quite a difference..so is it U-20 or 21??

That squad was 'weaker' as well, didn't have any of the lads from US Colleges apart from Henderson or Chris James.

It has been changed this year to U21 because of the Youth league.

as long as the squad as a whole contains a decent number of Kiwis (which most of us seem ok with at the moment) I don't feel that we need to restrict our pick of young players to kiwis

Well, apparently more important people disagreed with me
Why did we work so hard to poach somebody elses U20 when surely the club could've found a worthy kiwi?

As much as I'd love to see all three of our under-21's to be Kiwi, it's far more important to field a competitive team that stands a good chance of winning the championship. We had the chance to sign a player who fulfils the U21 requirement and (hopefully) be a good asset to the team. To me, that's far more important than looking for a player who may or may not be as good on the sole qualification of being a potential All White.
That being said, I'm an immigrant so I might be biased
Who knows, it's not too late to do an O'Dor-situation and find a fourth U21 player, one who is worthy and a Kiwi, and field Hearfield as a senior squad member.

Clearly the club didn't think there was one.
I think it is important for the club to be successful that the U20 players are able to contribute. For example look at the impact of the U20 players at the Roar last season. If they aren't able to then we are basically operating with a squad of 20 instead of 23.
Hearfield will only qualify for an U20 slot for this season and is an important signing for our future success.
I think it also sends an important message to the young kiwis coming through that these slots will not just be handed out just cos there's one free but must be earned on merit.
