Kinda long but you may enjoy it ...

After my trip to Queensland last week - read about it in
http://www.yellowfever.co.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2654

I went down the sunny east coast to Newcastle.
On Sunday afternoon I met up with some Newcastle fans, including Timmy_v at the United Sports Club before the game.
Unfortunately there was only me from the Phoenix so we couldn't get any chants started.

It was warm and sunny, and there were a reasnable crowd, but mroe dispersed around the stadium than what we get at the Ring of Fire.
At the ticket counter I ran into a couple of Nix fans. We sat next to the Squadron to get some atmosphere. We put up the Phoenix banner - hope you saw it on TV. The Squadron were pretty good, didn't have many charts especially for us, but they certainly made a lot of noise.
They weren't just singing, they had a megaphone, drums and whistles too.

At half time I took a walk around. Got chatting to a Jets fan who was impressed I came all the way.

A couple of minutes later a kid came up to talk to us, looking a bit awestruck. I thought, what's going on here then? I guess he's never seen a Phoenix fan before, maybe he wants my autograph? He said: "Could you move out of the way, you're blocking our view"
Er, whoops!

A couple of girls from Wellington had found us, but there still wasn't a critical mass.
Perhaps we should have sat in the away section but it looked like it was alcohol-free. It's a bit rubbish when there's not enough of you to start chants up!

Result was a bit crap, but at least Daniel didn't dive this time.

After the game I hung around and waited for the players to come out. Terry was there too, he was impressed I got across the Tasman!
But what do you say to a Phoenix player apart from 'good effort'? 'How are you enjoying Wellington?', I guess ...

Swapped scarves with a Jets fan. Guess I can't show off my Newcastle scarf at the Backbencher though ...

Pics from the Queensland trip are up in the gallery now.
Have uploaded some pics from Newcastle, hopefully they'll be there soon.

I'd love to do some more away trips, but will have to see how the budget stretches ...
