Another point on this.
Two weeks ago, some people would have said Hearfield out, Ferrante out, Muscat out. Now a fortnight later they have all played important roles in a win. Who is to say that in a fortnight, Plodder, Richard Johnson and someone else won't do the same ?

possibly, but I think we are a lot closer now to knowing who has got the attitude, application and skills to nail down a first team spot. We also have improved our tactics to suit our squad better- a 442 with Covs starting every match seemed to be a bit silly given the players we signed.
3 in the midfield and 3 up front with two wingers seems to suit our squad IMO. Johnson is good cover for Brown or McKain. Plodder hasn't done anything wrong with his time this season, and Mulligan must have something better to contribute. Muscat has played a good hand in two wins over Sydney. Gao and Daniel both surely have something to add to this season, putting pressure on Bertos and Hearfield.
Ferrante is odd, because we don't seem to have anyone else who plays the same way he does.
Kwasnik has only had one good game I can remember, and plenty of chances. Gao has shown a lot more than him, especially in our home win against Sydney, when he roused the team from slumber.
The sentimental option of Covs has failed. He won't make it, and it is sad that he has to go this way, rather than having a final season here where he got a few goals from the bench, and left on a high with the fans.
I think there is certainly value for the club in both Muscat and Gao. I don't think they will be jetisonning either of these players with out a damn good reason.
