Who else saw this piece on TV3 tonight?

Rufer basically arranged for Boyd & Fenton to train with Bremen's second squad and then the potential to train with the firsts.
Pretty awesome stuff for the two youngsters and as Louis said, they'll come back as better players for it.

Would be great if they did impress over there - this is why we have them tied up in long term deals I guess

Yeah, awesome stuff. Should be a buzz for them.

Yes! Does not look like it should be pronounced 'winners' at all

What would happen if they wanted to sign one of them? They are under contract right? So we'd be up for a transfer fee?

Permalink Permalink

yip they were both signed to 3 year deals.. so we could get a decent transfer fee if they were interested.

Both signed 3 year deals, so would have to be paid for.

Good to see Rufer finally doing something useful. His contacts in Germany have been great, especially if Marco lands a gig over there.

Most of the good stuff happening in the game in this country happens because of people like Wynton.

Think: WYNRS, Ole, APFA, TW, WPX - all started and driven by passionate people who get shit done in spite of NZF.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I think its because they give a stuff. I could hardly say that NZF struck me as a 'caring, proactive' organisation.

Is there anything wrong with that model though? Maybe that just reflects what NZFs role should be? Don't forget there are plenty of people in this country who already think their subs are too high and NZF should do even less.

Is it the NZ Govt's job to start new businesses? Or maybe just to set the rules and provide a few core services?

Anyway, thanks for taking two of our kids on your trip to Germany Wynton, you crazy diamond.

Well done Wynton. I have never figured out the Wynton hate thing. OK he is as mad as a cut snake but who cares...his heart is in the right place...he does things his way. It seems that he is super passionate about promoting football in this country. We need more like him.

Tall poppy syndrome IMO

I've never understood it either. From what I understand, Wynton likes to do things absolutely Wyntons way. I have heard that its his sandpit, he provides the toys and tell you when you will play with them, which, when you are dealing with a national body, well they just don't like it so he is tagged as a bit of a renegade or nutbar and troublesome.

Personally, I have no issue with the guy over the years. He's always been polite, reasoned. He seems to have good contacts and produces some good footballers. Why that's a reason to be on the outside of the circle is beyond me but it seems the Welnix guys are not stupid people. Great move for them and hopefully teach Boyd what a left foot is used for and how to slot a goal.

Don't think either will get signed but it'll be a good experience for both. Think Fenton has the better potential but Boyd is still just a kid.

Both have potential... Boyd is a couple years younger than Fenton so may be further ahead in that regard.

Both have similar attributes and failing, the biggest issue is getting their head up and looking for better options.

Look forward to seeing them come back better players, or better yet, getting snapped up and seeing a few more nzers overseas.

Would be great as it would me another 2 u21 signings would be needed.

A couple of the u17 boys would make for interesting prospects.

Fenton brings a lot more to the table than Boyd. But neither of them are anywhere near the level to interest Werder Bremen.

You can call Wynton a lot of things, but reasoned isn't one of them.

Sort of disagree - think Fenton didnt really show a whole lot more than Boyd this year - he just had the goals and hype attached to him - and that first game. Think Boyd probably had more impact off the bench during the season and showed he has the potential on a technical level if he can gain confidence with that left foot. Also was played out of position (well sort of - he's more a central player).

Would be interested to hear why others think fenton was dramatically better than boyd?

Both definitely need to get their heads up more but I was impressed by both of them and think they could both go places.

Fenton has much better head on him and better understanding of the game. You could see the improvement in the aspects of his game that needed improving from the start of the season to the end. He's not there yet, but he's shown enough promise that he'd be able to get to a good level.

Boyd has a bit of youthful enthusiasm and pace, along with a couple of tricks. Brilliant if you're playing Northern Premier or Central leagues, nowhere near good enough if you want to get to a decent professional level. He has a lot of technical problems: he struggles to do anything significant with his first touch, he only uses his left foot to stand on, his tactical understanding of the game is rudimentary, and most disappointingly, he's shown no improvement in any of those areas through the course of the season.

Louis is a hardworker. Runs his ass off every game up and down the sidelines.
Tyler seems to fall in and out of games. More creative and skilful than Louis but lacks his stamina.
Both need to work a lot on finishing.

In terms of ball control, dribbling etc I think Fenton is a lot better than Boyd.

Bearing in mind of course Boyd is only 18 so has a bit of growing and maturing Physically to do so Fenton has a couple of years on him in regards Stamina. Fenton also had a season in the VPL so he eased into it a bit more.
Fenton overall had the better season, but they should both continue to progress in a professional environment and some time with Werder Bremen will certainly not do them any harm.

Keep in mind Bremen II who they are training with are in the division below the 3rd Liga so no doubt they are better than that level

but signing for that team is not a step up (financially or.........footbally) from where they are now.
