Despite pre-season talk and the PSC, Centrebet in Oz still have the Nix as outsiders to make the 4 with even Perth more favoured.
I've stuck a $20 on the boys making it.
To make the top 4

They clearly haven't listened to the six A-L captains who picked us as the dark horse eh! (the other two weren't sure - this must have included AD).

Centre bet odds out for this weekend, Nix at shorter odds than Roar;
Nix paying $2.45
Draw $3.30
Roar $2.70
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

yep we certainly are at the bottom of the barrel as far as the Aussie commentators are concerned. One Robbie Slater in his Sunday Telegraph column, and according to the column he is soccers number 1 analyst, never even mentioned the Nix at all except in his 'season predictions'for 2008/09.
THE HEROES
Sydney FC
Queensland Roar
Melbourne Victory
Adelaide Utd
THE ZEROES
Central Coast Mariners
Newcastle
WELLINGTON (yep , just Wellington)
Perth
He carries on from last year and is still soccers number 1 w**ker, hates us with a passion, and likewise! I will keep and eye out on whats happening in regard to the Roar and pre match comments over here, there's quite a bit about at the moment, but the local papers were very complimentary about the Nix last week, hinting that we should have won in regular time against Melbourne.

Robbie Slater's opinion is highly biased given his desire to see no New Zealand teams in the A-League. That's fair enough from a patriotic perspective, but I see it much like the Warriors in the NRL that it secures great advertising and televisions rights funding for the A-League product. Having that niche market to explore is quite important to the commercial strategy of the A-League and that's what commentators like Slater can't comprehend. At the end of the day, the key question the board of the A-League probably ask is, does having a vibrant team in New Zealand grow our product and expand on our ROFE and the answer IMO is undeniably yes.
I think we'll surprise a lot of sides this year and finish either in the 4 or on the cusp of it. I'm not sure on either Sydney FC or Melbourne Victory. To be honest, for most of last season the Victory were fairly ordinary and disorganised and I didn't really see much improvement in the final. I thought the 'Nix outplayed them, it was a shame on the penalties though. FC strike me as a team that look good up front, but I just question their penetration from midfield without Juninho who while he was injured for a fair proportion of last season always seemed to offer direction, and I'm not sold on their defence either.

Superstar Craig Foster picks us to finish bottom, but he doesn't know his arse from his elbow. Ignore.
Frank Farina sees us as a real threat according to the Age this morning. Also, in their A League supplement a few days ago the Age picked Leilei Gao as the Phoenix's key player this season. Interesting choice.
