Luke Devere, according to Piney's twitter
Nix Transfer Speculation 2019-20
Yep, it's de vere. I know he was good once but sheesh, too old and too broken
Quality pickup, > Durante or Kopa
I know people bag Mitch Austin a lot, but I do think there is some talent their.
I would take a punt on him as a squad player who may come good.
We need First XI players now, not never woulda couldas

He's 29, but yes, definitely broken. I think it's an important signing to replace Durante - someone who can bring a bit of leadership.
Oh shark, my bad everyone. For some reason I thought he was Dura's age, probably just because of how long he's been around and how many injuries he's had. In that case yes we are probably better off with him rather than Dura - so long has he stays healthy
Quality pickup, > Durante or Kopa
He's only played 14 games in the past 2 seasons. Hopefully his injuries aren't too bad now. Cross all fingers and toes.
Beggars can't be choosers and all that.
He must've had to meet some KPIs that Talay set him before having a contract put in front of him. Either way, hoping he and Taylor can work out some kind of roster where only one of them gets injured at a time!
Over 200 appearances at good professional level, and one time Australian international, so pretty decent pedigree.
A bit concerning that he's only made 14 appearances over the last two full seasons though.
Saying to Piney that his body is at 100% and he's ready to go. Hopefully the injuries aren't those that will recur, but knee ligaments isn't a good thing.
De Vere is the only quality player cut by the Roar & that is cuz his knee is fubar.
He's our man :D
Happy with the caliber of the signing. Hopeful he doesn't do a Burns on us and spend the whole season injured but let's have some faith shall we

It would be interesting to know what kind of contract he is on - small salary, but a decent playing bonus etc, so the onus is on him staying fit.
Taking bets on whether DeVere breaks down completely before ever playing a game, like L. Pantelis
Wonder if we will now use an import slot for a CB, still need another starting CB given his injury record
It certainly feels like Stefan Marinovic has been the pinnacle of our recruiting so far...
after his signing, for the next 3 I keep thinking....it's ok this signing must be a Squad Player, oh another Squad Player, and another Squad Player... starting to worry this is who we are signing for the starting 11...

DeVere is absolutely starting quality
I think this could turn out to be a very good signing for us. De Vere certainly adds a whole lot in experience which hopefully now will give Talay some confidence to sign some young NZ defenders like Pijnaker or Sinclair, or even Tim Payne.

Which he apparently is.
He paased the medical, so surely he must be fit
Joe Bell currently on trial with Viking in Norway and was approached by Borussia Dortmund recently. Tough competition for us, would have loved him here but he’ll take the bigger opportunities

Where did you get this from?
Surely if Borussia is interested that's your first port of call. Would Viking be seen as a much better step up than the A League?
I hope the Dortmund rumour isn't based on Wynton's ranting.
NZ U20 CB Nando Pijnaker started for @TorslandaIK on the weekend, so can probably be crossed off any @WgtnPhoenixFC fan wishlists.

(He was also subbed off after 48 minutes, which is a worry)

Yeah I'd say the Norwegian top flight is better than the Aussie one.

I recall some years ago when Wynton stated that Marinovic should be the All Whites' keeper there were a few on here that said he was ranting.

Well, at the time he certainly shouldn't have been.
Pinjanker can still be a target - he's at a third division club in Sweden - probably has a get out free clause if he wants it/Edge wants it for him.

I think it's more the case of being in Europe and having more opportunities from there.
I actually thought he was still at University but seems like he's forgoing that.

4th Tier actually and his team are bottom.
So assuming Waine and Stensness are given new contracts (which has been implied by Uffie) we finally have an XI of sorts. If we roll out with that defence mid-season I'd be reasonably happy, really interested to see what strikers and midfielders we are trying to sign now. We'll have an FFA cup game in six weeks so hopefully we've got a couple of our imports by then.
Looks like we are in for Ryan McGowan also, I wonder if this was before we signed DeVere tho
It’s understood the Sky Blues are offering a multi-year deal, and are favourites to get their man ahead of other interested parties, including Melbourne Victory, Melbourne City, Adelaide United and Wellington Phoenix.

I love playing Youth, but the thought of this as a starting team or even being close to one scares me greatly!

Good defence but more of a wooden spoon look right there.
