Hi all, second post here. My wee man and I went as usual. The poor little bugger was frozen mid way through the second half and wanted to go home.Just as   we'd decided to go , Ifill scored; glad we didn't miss it.Towards the end , he got cold again and we'd just stood up but McKain scored.Funny how goals suddenly warmed him up.Even the walk home  wasn't a problem for him after that.
He's a  bit young to sit in the Fever zone but he loves the atmosphere you guys in there generate. The tribute Dadi got when he left was staggering. The 80 minute ritual makes him laugh too  ; we love the whole experience of going to the stadium ; I guess the football counts a bit too.
As for the game , a " game of 2 halves " was never so true. Fury might be a bit pissed to lose 3-nil ; it was a bit close than that. But the boys now look like they know how to win ugly so encouraging.
Cheers for the great entertainment you boys in the Zone give us- our favourite time of the week.

Don't know the RF layout first hand, but any reason YF couldn't set up directly opposite the camera positions, rather than down one end where they're only shown in cut-aways?

I realise that traditionally, footie fans tend to chose an end, but playing with YF as the backdrop to the action would make the game look more of a spectacle.

And get away from that awful empty stadium look with the big bank of empty yellow seats.

The spot was chosen because:

A, It's not in the more expensive seats.
B, It's the nearest point to the pitch in the oval stadium.
C, It's near the entrance and we're lazy.

Last night also pointed out that in a Southerly it's perfect as well as the wind and rain sail over.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Good result even if it wasn't a great game with clearly several players not up to their normal standards - cut them a bit of slack due to the weather. Agree with Fowler though, the score did flatter us as we were under pressure for long periods and is a tribute to a resolute defensive unit that we kept a clean sheet.

A win always makes the trip home in any conditions a good one

... the 'big bank of empty seats' may have looked worse last night because the faithful fans headed up to the back of the seating area to try to avoid the worst of the weather.
And as to the YF position, if i remember right there was lots of debate before the start of the first season about where to stand and one of the reasons for choosing aisles 21 & 22 was the proximity of the players' tunnel.
It worked well for giving David Beckham a good rark up last season and also for giving Dadi a good send-off last night.

i agree with you there the five of us got soaked walking to the car after staying dry in the stadium, even though we were wet still a good ride back to wanganui talking about the game most of the way.was good to get in the shower and get some dry gear on once home.

The difference was that our 3 shots at goal (& there were more) stuck, their shots didn't.

I  Phoenix.  Coldest game ever, was in a corp. box last night but was outside for teh whole game and ir was rough. Getting the top off after McKain's goal cheers everyone up though.

At HT a mate said that this is exactly the kind of game we need to win if we want to be contenders.  Spot on.  What a night.

agree - we finished our chances / they weren't able to keep us out versus they couldn't finish their chances / we could keep them out. It is always a combination of attack and defence - in our case we are improving in organisation and more resolute at stopping team other teams scoring.

Of concern, we often look good keeping possession, but for long periods in second half we struggled to keep possession let alone string 3 passes together. Giving away possession too cheaply only to watch them come back at us - thank goodness for the 2nd (and then 3rd) to allay fears of another draw with them.

Highlights said that neither team was able to string five consecutive passes together in the second half. But great game. Packed fever zone. I didnt get why there were some Fury fans actually IN the fever zone?? Good night and seeing Hard News, Stefan and Mr Incredible in the harbour made the weather seem bearable. OH Phoenix I love you.

I'd swear we were going into the wind first half? Did anyone else notice this? I know the ROF normally swirls but still, the corner flags at the other end were blowing towards us.

The conditions didn't suit Dadi last night and apart from the goal really didn't have anywhere near the on-ball impact (did  attract attention) he did last week. Would be looking forward to drier grounds so hope not being available is a bit of early notice / pessimism and he IS available for next week.

Whats a couple of stitches in the head - it's not as if he has a broken leg or pulled muscle - needs to toughen up and be more like the fans that support him !

oh well - that physique lends itself well to defence as the attackers will run our of breath having to go round them..in attack it could be said they will command a bigger space

Nice link.

Reverse angle view of Ifill's shot shows how well it was placed.

Brown was standing in a offside position for Ifill's goal.  and considering how close the shot was too Brownn, a dodgy ref could easily have disallowed it.

It's traditional worldwide for the hardcore fans to sit at one end - the "Curva Sud" (south end), in the case of many Italian teams.

Aisle 21: closest to concourse and therefore pub, has gents on one side and beer and food on the other, view is great, all good. Some ofthe other aisles you have to walk three aisles to get to any facilities. DANALDO2010-01-16 18:05:05

All A-League Referees are dodgy. Are you suggesting that Peter Green is less dodgy than the others?

Rubbish. Brown was one of the few decent performers in the 1st half and stood out like a beacon in the midfield in the 2nd.

If thats the case why did only 5 people vote for him out of 80?

Good articles on 1 and 3 tonight, no links yet though.  Definitely getting more exposure these days, 3-0 is more interesting to report than a goalless draw for the television media.

I was sitting on half way, and it was clear that the wind and rain was coming in behind the Phoenix in the first half. But that appeared to be only when the ball was well up in the air.

When the ball was on the ground, it was much less evident,as witnessed by the flags as mentioned.

And straight after half time, I thought it was obvious that playing South to North wasnt quite as much of an advantage as you might have expected. The wind seemed to swirl back nearer ground level and even help the team playing south.

Walking out of the stadium after, I have to say I havent seen such atrocious weather for some time, I got absolutely soaked and chilled walking to the car, quite unbelievable.

I also watched the last 5 minutes from the tunnel next to the Fever Zone, and quite frankly that is an appalling place to watch the game from, you get no perspective whatseoever. With so many good seats available nearer half way, why would you choose to watch from there?

We've moved around a bit last two seasons. Our season pass is for two aisles along from FZ. Very happy with the spot as it is close enough to get the chants, a bit closer to the field and still full of people.

Middle and opposite ends are dead quiet.

Seats on the other side of the stadium are out of the sun (ha! what sun?) but the people there do pay attention to the game.

Last night I was surprised at the number of people in 28/29 who treated it more like a place to have a good yarn - sort of like the Super 14 games!

Next season we might shift one over to Aisle 24 if we can, but very happy with 23.

Also showed extensively in One's report on Wellington's so-called 'summer' ... lots of shots of rain, sodden players and YF gritting it out.

Good goal but was it Ifill's intention to go for that side (left) of the goal?  I would've thought he'd go for the right hand side since it was relatively clear of the keeper/defenders.

Because everyone got about 5-10 votes as there wasnt really a standout?

Allegedly

Please stop trying to spoil a mans irrational dislike with logic!

also, as to continually contributing nothing:
Ifill 9
Brown 6
Greenacre 5
Dadi 3
Daniel 2
Bertos 2
Sigmund 1
Barbarouses 1
McKain 1
Hearfield 1
