On that note, I'll correct the subject line. Gonna give it a miss though.

Thought about going out but world cup fever got the better of me. The phoenix will have to wait for another few weeks to regain my attention.

NZ U20 ?

The only face I recognised was Coey Turipa in goal.  I thought I'd recognise more of our U20s.

Anyway.  6-2 Phoenix
D-Mac 2, Greenacre 2, Ifill, Louis Fenton.

Phoenix:
----------- Mystery keeper (youngster, maybe the U20's spare)
- Hall-Jones - Dura - Musa - Milne
- Daniel - Manny - Two foot Troy
------- Ifill - Greenacre - D-Mac

Changes had Louis Fenton, Justin Gulley and a mystery striker on for D-Mac, Ifill and Daniel.

Ifill's goal was a cracker from 23 or so yards out.

No idea who scored for the U20's.

What are your thoughts on D-Mac?

Big, strong, wearing a lucky head bandage.  Opposition seemed pretty young for U20's though.

Good to see Coey Turipa starting, he's just turned 18 so will have a couple more years in the side.

Not as donkey as I'd feared. Turipa stopped Ifill 1 v 1 at least four times.

I think the U20 team last night was made up of prospective candidates for the National U20 squad and the game was effectively being used as a trial game for players from the Capital and Central region (there was certainly one lad from Hawke's Bay playing) and I'm pretty sure I saw Chris Milicich pitchside casting his eye over the proceedings.  I'd be surprised if Corey Chettleburg wasn't under consideration for selection to the U20s squad and you'd have to reckon the same consideration would be given to Louis Fenton as well.  Corey didn't play last night because he got a knock in training the previous evening.

Might find the NZ U20 squad was only a Capital/Central identification selection

A 28 man training squad has been selected for a training camp in Auckland in July
7 from Force 3
8 from Auckland
3 from Mainland

(For names see the Federations sites)

That leaves 10 from the other 4 Feds, also excludes a number of the boys based overseas

Andrew Milne and Sean Lovemore currently trailing for the vaccant youth position at the nix, assume Sean would be the unknown forward

The squad was u20 Capital/Central team.

4 lads from hawkes bay were playing, Andrew Bevin, Tom Biss, Ryan Martin and Adam Chandlar.

Andrew bevin from hawkes bay scored one goal and Not sure about the other.

Pomare Te Anau, Andrew Bevin and Ryan Cain were up front.

With Tom Biss, Ethan Cain and Michael Hagarety in the middle.

Not sure about defenders.

Ifills goal was a ripper.

Joel Weichern - former Nelson Suburbs and NZ secondary schools player, now with Miramar played a full 90, apparently.

I'll stand corrected if Corey is too old for the U20s.  However, the reason for me thinking that he would still be eligible for the U20s is that I distinctly recall that he turned 16 during the 2007 U17 WC tournament.  I think the eligibility rules for next year's tournament are that you have to be under 20 on 1st January 2011 (i.e. born on/after 1st January 1991).  Must remember to ask him when I next see him.

Yeah, I'm not to sure about how old he is. But if i remember hearing 91, 92 are the years.

You sounds right to me.

Just to put my 2c in. Despite being very loose affairs, Musa has looked very composed in the couple I've watched. Have been quite impressed to be honest. And Ifill's goal was a cracker.
