Didn't Siggie have some stat for most intercepts in the league last season?

In spite of being the player most at fault for the goal, I thought Siggy was immense against Brisbane, particularly in the second half. He had a lot of intercepts in that game. I would be willing to bet he won more ball for us than any other player and despite all their possession Brisbane had very few genuinely good chances. I do also like Boxall and thought he has done pretty well in the two games he has had so far.

Ifill needs to be played to bring his fitness back up. My big concern at the moment is that he can't really last 90 and if the game is close Ricki doesn't seem to want to sub him off even when he wasn't really contributing much at the end, I would have much rather had Fenton left on. Earlier on though he did seem to be getting back into it a bit more.

Ifill needs to sub on late. If he needs injections in his ankle so he can't train on it, then he can't make the starting team.

I know it's crazy talk, but I really do think we should use Ricardo Clarke while he is here, his pace could be useful against Adelaide.

Why don't we rest ifill? Why continue to push him through injuries so he can play below his best for the rest of the season? I'd rather him miss a couple of weeks and start totori during that time, than push ifill. We have options now.

It's not crazy - he looks class prospect from training and the other night etc.

Yeah, based on what I've seen so far (and admittedly it's not all that much from Clarke), I feel Clarke would be able to contribute more right now than Boyd.

It's always a judgement call with these things but I don't think Ifill will ever be injury free. He needs to play to get matchfit. Without inside knowledge I'll trust the medical staff to make the call. If he does have an injury that will get worse if played on but recover with 1-2 weeks rest, then yes, now wouldn't be the worst time for him to be rested, but I gather that isn't the situation.

Newspaper article said he needed an injection so he couldn't train and had to go the gym. If you are fit to play you don't need an injection in your ankle that stops you from training with the team.

Regardless of the medical opinion, it doesn't help the team having a player like Ifill 90% fit for most of the year because we don't use the other squad members to give him a rest. Match fitness you can get back when you are actually 100% fit to play.

It's early enough in the season, with a few weeks on the road, that it would be a good opportunity to tell him to take a rest.

So he needs to be managed between matches so that he is fit to play; happens all the time and he is nowhere near as bad as Ledley King, he may just not recover as quick from knocks but if he and the medical staff declare him fit then fine. I still think his work rate is decent, does drop off a bit late in games, but overall fine. His pace is not bad either, ran down Halloran, admittedly Halloran had the ball but Lochhead was struggling, and on balance has a positive impact on our performance.
Only thing is I would have liked to seen him take on the defender to improve his chance, fake shot and drag onto his left and then have both corners to aim rather than the narrow angle he decided to shoot from. Though, 'easier said than done' and 'hindsight is wonderful thing' etc.

Would have liked to seen Boxall retained in the squad, just in case we lose a defender to this illness at short notice again. Will be a toss up between Boyd and Clarke over who will be omitted on game day.

Would have been nice to Lindsay getting a shot on the bench too. He covers the center of midfield, right back, left back and even center back.. he deserves his shot soon!

would like to see boyd and fenton conect together would be a good duo also .ifill could have a rest if needed i dont see why he cant .

Going onto the rugby subject here ( sorry ) but richie mcaw is having a few months rest isn't he ? cant be hard to have a couple weeks rest can it?

Plus read in the paper that all players are 100% fit and ready to play .

another questionis Leo was he right back or right mid last week ? Cause he played both roles really good last week

Sorry..I dont troll..just have honestly held misguided beliefs..(opinions).  I believe we need to take a chance with pace and play either Boyd or Clarke..who looked good in the 2 half games I have seen him play and start to ask some questions of other teams.  They know what Ifill can/ will/ wants to do..but Im now sure he is there yet.  Brockie seems not to be connected at the moment either.  Maybe not confident.

Fair enough but I'm of the opinion that until the team is broke, don't fix it. We haven't lost yet, and while a hand full of our players are not quite at their best I think they deserve the chance to improve - it's only been three games and even less than that for some of these players. This weekend could be a real test and we might find out more about our side than we have to date, whether that goes positively or negatively.

I certainly don't think Brockie has a problem with confidence. Pressure on the other hand... He scored so many goals in pre-season that he knows everyone is expecting him to be smashing them in. I think once he pots one he'll be fine. Also the more time he plays next to Stein the better they will understand each other.
We have quite a different look to last season, a lot of additions/position changes. Give it time people.

Fuck this stupid game

I know it was only preseason, but brockie played really well out wide, and oddly that's where he was knocking in goals from. Based on preseason I was Definetly expecting brockie out wide and ifill up front. It's also where I think their strengths lie.

When ifill was injured it made sense to put brockie up front and totori on the wing, but now that he is supposedly fit,I'm surprised it hasn't changed back. It's not that big of a fix to change two players around.

I thought Ifill wanted to play out wide as well..so therein lies the problem..two players who want to play or are good out wide..so find another partner up front to Heysegems and bench one of the others.

Or stop pandering to where players want to play, and start playing them where they best benefit the team.

This prediction of how the game will go is on the FFA site!!!!!

Prediction: Adelaide United 1-2 Wellington Phoenix
Despite boasting a superior record against Wellington, an upset looms on the cards for Adelaide.

While United's defence has remained stout, conceding just two goals this season, the forward third has failed to bury limitless chances and may well pay the price like last Friday to the Victory.

Adelaide will likely fall behind just prior to half-time to a header from in-form Belgian target man Stein Huysegems, but hit back with an equaliser in the second-half as the game wears on via a spot-kick (they already have been awarded two this season) or dead ball opportunity.

The Phoenix should then steal victory late in proceedings courtesy of Fenton or Paul Ifill, who has a habit of rising to the occasion with a timely goal.

No worries. It's not a Grandadi prediction, clearly a random speculative punt.
Need to visit my investment analyst tomorrow and go for my hedged volatile high risk high return option ($5 on draw and win).

2. Are the Reds the real deal?
Adelaide have arguably been the form team of the competition so far, despite suffering their first loss against Victory last week.

Their pre-season AFC Asian Champions League campaign put John Kosmina’s side on the front foot and they looked to have a well-balanced squad.

The return to form of Dario Vidosic and exciting prospects in Jeronimo Neumann and Fabio Ferreira suggests Adelaide have what it takes to push opposing teams this season, but they can expect a stern test from the visiting Phoenix. Put Ricki Herbert’s side to bed and Adelaide might just emerge as genuine contenders.
